Hi MyBB,
I'm sitting with a dilemma. I love my current nonstick pan and don't want to part with it. Does anyone know of someone in Johannesburg that does respraying or re-coating? Any info would be appreciated.

OP it's not worth it.
We tried it via Homemark or Verimark methinks.
The new coat didn't last even a few months.

Cast iron can't go into the dishwasher.... I did it once.... Stupid stupid stupid.....

Can be rectified. Just needs to be seasoned a few times. But yes, people only ever do that once! :crying:

Best way to clean cast iron is a nylon brush & salt. Never use sunlight or any other type of detergent.

Don't do it.
If you're looking for less maintenance than a cast iron pan, look at stainless steel.

What happens when you put it in the dishwasher?

Cast iron pans & skillets are "seasoned" over the years by a build up of oil which fills in all the imperfections in the casting. This creates a non-stick surface. if you place them in a dishwasher, or wash them with detergent & for example a scourer you remove this seasoning. Pans then rust & food then sticks.

Rust I'm guessing

Indeed. See my comment above.

I have a pan that was given to my grandmother as a wedding gift in the 1940's. With proper care they last forever.

Thanks, we don't have cast iron pots or pans so never knew that.

They really are the easiest & the best to use. From stove top into oven onto table.

Made a frittata for breakfast on Sunday, bacon, onion, peppers, mushrooms all done in skillet on stove top, added egss with cream, cheese on top, popped it in the oven for 10 minutes & hey presto! Out of oven, onto granite board on table ready to dish. Quick & easy.
