Hi all

So someone washed my sisters car and used the rough side off the green sponge.

They made quite deep scratches

So she took the car to get it buffed but they can't remove everything and suggested a re-spray

Would the re-spray work and help as she intends keeping the car for around 7 more years

Will the paint get damaged by sun more easily after the re-spray ?

The spray would be done at a vw approved dealer

Thank

I think you should check with the panel beater, i know Major 2 gives you like a 5 year guarantee on their work, last i heard though

Most of the large panel beaters will offer a lifetime warranty on spray work, that includes bubbling, pealing clear coat etc.

Who the **** washes a car with a sponge like that in the first place? Never mind the scouring pad...it's just stupidly small.

Paint is paint, if done properly it will be just like out of the box when it was bought.

Whether it's worth it is a whole different story.

It's fine, lasts just like factory paint. Make sure the place is reputable though.

A good paint job should last the life of the car if looked after properly.

Who did you take it to for a polish? Hopefully not a similar muppet that washes cars with kitchen scourer.
If the scratches don't catch a fingernail, there is a good chance it can be polished out. But take it to a reputable detailer who owns a paint thickness gauge. Prodetailers are not cheap but I would investigate this option before going to a respray. That's potentially a new can of worms.

Pics would help.

the scratches are not so deep but the one guy went down to 1500 grit and upwards and that never helped

so now they say its a respray that needs to be done

so as long as they are reputable there shouldnt be a problem and the paint should be as good as from the factory
