Damn dude. Your peecee must have been running the same speed as the stone ages. You should do that as often as you take a shower, really. Especially if you browse the web often, play music often (evidently) and so-on.
No it never really slowed down..even if I leave it on for a week with hibernation switched on...which takes 2GB of HD space, but I dont mind.

I think the problem comes with ActiveSync or the Windows Media player sync settings...whenever I get new music I somehow find it on my phone's storage card. I haven't bothered to find out what's the cause of it because its kinda nice.

Hibernating won't slow down your pc due to one really simple reason- the hibernation file or whatever you want to call it, is set as a system file and is one continuous (non-fragmented) file, so you cannot defrag or move it.

i am too scared to do a disk clean up.

What's dangerous about doing a disk cleanup? The worst it can do is delete all your porn cache, then you have to go re-download it. :) Apart from that, there is absolutely no risk whatsoever. It simply cleans up your temporary files and so on.

Works both ways - more reasons could possibly have been found in the ensuing months?

bwana im not some vista fan boi who thinks vista is great no matter what ppl say

vista is by far the most solid OS microsoft has ever made

i have windows 98
me
2000
xp

vista is just awesome and since they fixed the network copy and files copy bug its really great

now i agree vista is a big install but then again if you told us when windows 98 was out that we would have 1tb drives ppl would have said for what?

surely they dont make 1tb hdd's for nothing

ppl moan about vista being a big install but so what

if you look at vista's install compared lets say windows 98 and you take the hdd's out now and the hdd's out back then you will see the ratio is pretty much the same

160 gig hdd's are basically the standard as the price difference between an 80 and 160 gig is so small, i actually wonder why they bother with 80 gig hdd's

bwana the reason i say that article is old is because they still mention driver problems, which we all know is a thing of the past and to be honest lack of drivers has nothing to do with microsoft

that whole drm story is fulla kuk as well, all my media plays 100% on vista

no but my point was that hdd's sizes are so massive that 13 gigs is nothing considering you can buy 1tb drives and 160 gig hdd's are basically the standard

i do not understand why people moan about vista's size on their 160/250/500/750 and 1tb hdd's

can i ask a sincere question? no answers here seem to dispute what the article says. in that there is no response like:

point 1 - wrong in this repsect
etc..

why is that?

I used Vista for more than a year without any problems. And I dont care about size because some Linux versions is also big. Some 6gb+

1.Decreased Playback Quality
im sorry but this is such BS its not even funny, all my media plays 100%
2.Problems with Drivers
so companies who are to lazy to make drivers for this OS dont take the blame and vista is said to suck because companies wont make drivers for their hardware

Decreased System Reliability

vista is more reliable than any other microsoft OS

maybe shock g can help out with the rest

That'll differ from person to person. I have personally had more problems with Windows Vista than Windows XP.

And I'm expecting to hear that it's either my fault or an isolated case :p

Not entirely, there weren't any sound card drivers (not Windows Vista's fault) ;)
But my biggest problem with it: Horrible gaming performance, no matter the hardware/software combination (on multiple machines).

But I live in hope :D

Well that is also mostly a driver problem, Nvidia/ATI are still developing like crazy for Vista. And of course DX10 slows things down, but you don't always have to use it even on Vista.

Most tests lately put Vista a few FPS behind XP though, in some cases it's even faster with DX10 cards. I wouldn;t think that you'd notice a big difference at all, nevermind horrible. Have you tried Vista again recently with the latest drivers?

Yes I have (Windows Vista is installed on two of my machines), no improvements. And when I say horrible, I mean horrible. If I take Counter-Strike: Source as an example, I went from 180FPS to 40-something FPS with random freezes in-between.

I also suspect driver problems, which is why I'll stick to Windows XP until it's been sorted.

Please read the rest. Decreased Playback Quality of so-called "premium" quality content when not played over encrypted & certified hardware paths. So, should I not have a certified 3D card, I can forget about ever playing my blue-ray dvds on my HD monitor. etc etc

Aah, I was actually thinking of CSS. No one really benchmarks it anymore, but I remember problems with it.

Have you tried any other, more modern, games? CSS also isn't quite what I'd expect on my Vista machine, but I haven't played in ages even under XP.

Well only old hardware would not be "certified", if you're buying from NVidia or ATI (your only two options :p) then it will of course be certified. Almost the same for sound cards etc.

It's not the best practise from MS, but it will hardly give most people decreased playback quality. If you even use Premium content at all.

again let me state that i have not read the article. is it not a possibility that vista reserves the ability to restrict what you can playback dependant on our hardware?

and that migh tbe driven by forcing say hardware makers to certify drivers for vista only? of course if that is what the article is saying then MS would be up for even more fines in Europe. Which I would think they would like to avoid.
