Started out with the Creative SBS-370 2.1 about 5 years ago, which I loved. Had great bass.

Then I "upgraded" to the Creative Inspire 4400 4.1 system which sounded decent, but the bass seriously lacked.

Now I'm thinking of giving Logitech a go. There don't seem to be any decent Creative 2.1 sets. Not sure about other brands.

My PC room is 3 x 4m, so it's not that big. I'll mainly be using the speakers in here.

I can get the Logitech Z4s for about R790, then I could get a sound card such as the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Value for about R350.

The Z2300s seem awesome, I can get them for about R1400. If I was to get them then I wouldn't be able to get a sound card just as yet. Also, I don't know if I'd need such powerful speakers in such a small room. Will also have to keep the bass very low since I'm in a complex.

Please share opinions and give any advice.

TIA. :)

+1 for the Z4's, but rather shop around for a good condition 2nd-hand Audigy4, than the Value. Even a 2nd-hand Audigy2-ZS is preferable.

I have started a similar topic several days ago.

I am getting an Altec Lansing FX4021 for around R900, have seen very good reviews and recommended by one of my trusted friend.
I am still thinking what soundcard to get, X-Fi extreme gamer or Asus Xonar D2X.

Have you got a set?

Do they kick? Is the bass hard and deep?

Yeah, I'll do that, rather shop around for a second hand sound card. Audigy Value does seem a bit cheapo.

Yeah I've seen it and also heard good things about Altec Lansing. I won't be able to get them at a good price though. I think I read in your thread that they normally go for over R1200? Then I may as well get the Z2300s.

:D I am sure there will be someone willing to help, I have been approached by two friendly forumite both offered to help me to get the speaker from Esquire. PM me for their ID if you want.;)

I have EFT money and hopefully to get my speakers in a day or two, really looking forward to it.

Z2300 is only R1200 from ikonicit.co.za, cheapest I can find online.

Cool.

I'm looking for 2.1 since I'm mainly going to be using them for music. :)

I've got an Altec Lansing 2.1 SS speaker set. Awesome bass and treble and the works. My solid wood desk vibrates at full volume.

Otherwise go for the best Logitech speakers you can get for under R1000. A friend has a 2.1 Logitech set and they are pretty awesome too. Really good sound, both of these.

I agree with the posts above...

Go with Altec or Logitech if you can't get hold of the FX4021 for under R1000.

With regards to soundcards...
An Audigy Value is a POS, any creative card under R1000 is a waste of money an not worth the effort, you'll be better off with a c-media or Via chipset soundcard.

Best to go for a second hand high-end soundcard if you want good sound + performance at a good price.

Logitech's are known for having dominating bass from their subs. I have Altec Lansing 2.1's with separate mids and tweeters in the satellites, which give beautifully clear notes. The Logitech Z4's have active as well as pressure drivers on the satellites, which should also do a better job of producing clear audio, compared to single-driver type satellites. If you want truly "hard and deep" bass, you'd have to invest in a pricier sub than one finds on these. For a room like yours, I would expect that the sound will be fine.

edit: if you are interested in the Z-2300's, then perhaps shop around some more. But do not insult your ears by using an onboard chip or cheap soundcard. I was very impressed when I switched to an X-Fi XtremeMusic (which has been replaced in the market by the XtremeGamer)

Good options, I have the ASUS D2(and love it!)since I compose music but if you are a gamer go with the X-FI, if you can get hold of the Auzentech X-fi Prelude(uses Creative's X-fi chipset) for cheaper go with that rather.

I remember reading a post that the Z2300s lack in treble.

Do they really lack, or does some of the treble just get drowned out by the bass? What is the actual make-up of the Z2300 satellite speaker? Tweeter and a mid, which are different to the Z4s/Altec Lansings how? I won't have the bass on high, probably on the lowest setting or else I'll get complaints.

I really just want the ability to play lower bass notes. The current sub doesn't perform.

Active and pressure drivers? Another name for tweeters and mids?
