Recommended ISP's for watching Twitch streams

I'm with Afrihost on a 20mbps vdsl capped offering.

In the recent weeks, mostly at night, I've experienced a lot of buffering on Twitch steams. I went through Twitch's troubleshooting and I've done everything they and other users recommended, but I still buffer a lot. Even on low 360p quality. I used to be able to watch 720p and even 1080p steams without any buffering a few months ago.

There's a big Dota2 tournament coming up and I booked in leave from work to watch it. Now I'm scared that I'm going to end up watching the tournament with constant buffering.

I contacted Afrihost support to see if they can do anything from their side to stop the buffering, but I also need to consider other options.

Can anyone please recommend me an alternative to Afrihost for watching Twitch steams without buffering?

You know you are getting old when you see something like this and go "WTF :wtf:". Nothing wrong with it. I am just not used to seeing/hearing that people take of work to see people play pc games. The world changed...

sorry for the thread derail.

ps. Try Cool ideas. I have not been using them for long but I am very happy with the streaming. (I am on fiber though)

Haha, I never though I'd be doing that, but I've grown quite fond of e-sports. The tournament's prizepool is over $22million so it's a pretty big event.

Anyway, I've never heard of Cool Ideas, but I'll go have a look.

Try this before you do anything drastic:

Download Streamlink and Streamlink Twitch GUI.

Once both are installed open Streamlink Twitch GUI - Settings - Enable advanced settings.

Now go to the third tab, it should be called Streamlink, set the stream type to rtmp and HLS segments to 10.

I can't believe how much smoother and clear the stream quality is. I'm for sure going to use this to watch streams in the future.

On high quality I still got a lot of buffering though. When I switch to medium quality then I only get buffering once in a while.

Are you on Afrihost?

I'm with Vox on 20Mbps VDSL.

I can watch any quality stream without issue, I couldn't find a 1080P stream right now but I did just test a 900P stream at 60FPS and it was perfect.

Edit: I just tested out the current Dota 2 stream with the most viewers which coincidentally was 1080P and it was working perfectly.

Thanks. I think I'll check Vox out. Even if it's just for a month so that my leave isn't entirely wasted.
