Best thing is do your own research on the matter (seeing that it is your face after all). What to use depends much on your skin type:

To summarize: Oily skin, use gel/foam based cleansers. Dry skin, use cream based cleansers.

Seeing that you have occasional issues with pimples look for a face wash which contains Salicylic Acid
