Any recommendations for the above? We would like to use it over LAN - direct cable connection to my neighbour.

Check out http://www.teamspeak.org/

Very easy to use and set up. Thanks to CrazyHorse for pointing it out to me... [:D]

Otherwise you can try http://www.skype.com/ for the skype tool.

am running skype at the mo but my microphones buggered so have to wait till 2morrow to get the other microphone from my house
but this program seriously kicks ass

Proud South african rip offs.

We settled on using Netmeeting for the time being, since you can transfer files as well, but I've been meaning to try Skype anyway.

Has anyone tried those Sennheiser headsets at
http://www.sennheisercommunications.com/pr-pc155.html

I'm wondering if you can use the USB version at the same time as a normal speaker setup?

I definitely recommend Skype. Easy to use, excellent quality. I make regular calls to Europe lasting over an hour each on average. No dropped calls. Perfect clarity. All calls and text messages are encrypted as well. Give it a try. www.skype.com

Teamspeak, Ventrilo and Roger Wilco all work on lans. I have tested them all.

www.ventrilo.com

Also note that with this software you can have large amounts of people chatting together. My BHD Squad (Brothers of Darkness) use Ventrilo with up to 20 people on at a time.

For those that have not heard ventrilo has gone commercial, the free version only allows up to 8 people.

In general that sucs as I found it to be one of the best in regards to clarity.

Well guess it is back to TeamSpeak [:(]
