Never in my life would I have expected to receive a recycled number whereby someone hasn't paid off their account(fashion, mobile service, etc) out of the 5 SIM cards I RICA'd already 3 of them are receiving communication from debit collections or reminders to pay off clothing accounts etc. - Now I am very puzzled if the place where I RICA'd my SIM CAARD have access to my credentials such as the number assigned to the SIM Card.

Receiving communication from Telkom Mobile Lawyers(Recovery/debt collectors) due to a number being recycled, possibly the contract number which was deleted due to non-payment.

SMS:

MR. ZAMISU N*** you in breach of your contract with Telk 8ta Mobi Ref 50005*** for R4884,38 due to unpaid debit orders.. Call 0861*********

What is the best way forward to get removed from their SMS/Calling database! Surely their lawyers have access to RICA details on current number.

Lol yeah MTN and Cellc are the same...... I got a sim here that gets SOOOO many calls its really impossible to use the simcard so I threw it in the bin.

Recycled numbers are not cool especially if that person used the number. You get so much spam. If you want a new number now the best ranges to go for is:

0603/0604/0605/0810 for MTN
0606/0607/0608/0818 for Vodacom
0614 for Telkom Mobile
0610/0611/0612/0613/0615/0616/0617/0618/0619 for Cellc

If you get one of these ranges they are brand new numbers and you are very likely the first user of the number.

What I find disturbing about recycled numbers if the user opt-in for VAS(value-added service) such as content, videos, quotes etc.. Then they start subtracting your airtime immediately fortunate on Telkom Mobile this isn't possible(as far as I am aware). It should be the duty of the SERVICE PROVIDER on every number they recycled to remove the number from any premium services.

Thank goodness didn't load airtime on a number I RICA'D recently 2nd day receive an SMS. We miss you !

The numbers from 8TA are still being assigned under the 081 a friend managed to get 061 number.

Thank goodness my new primary number hasn't been harassed as yet.

Not sure where the new list of prefix numbers can be found.

If the number has already been subscribed to VAS services from the previous number owner the billing tokens no longer work for that number and the double opt in process has to be completed again for that number to be billed again.

Didn't know that. Still wouldn't take my chances. I receive messages on 1 SIM CARD. About subscribing to ring tones etc

Since when? This has definitely not always been the case.

Police don't even have easy access to it, don't just ass_u_me stuff.

But yeah, I have a SIM in a tablet that gets SMSs about such stuff daily. They cant phone it so I ignore.

AfriHost Mobile SIM is a recycled number - get a lot of "you owe us xxx amount" SMS'es, I just ignore these.

edit :

Apparently either it's an important number, or somebody made a typo when entering numbers :

Code-yellow,kzn. Stolen cable between Marianhill/Thornwood. Trains to be authorised. Activation in place.

:wtf: will have to try and contact the authorities directly..

Network providers have access to it! Which I find disturbing - when contacting the service provider help desk! They ask for your name & surname & ID number before they able to even assist you!

Huh? *sigh* RICA and SP helpdesk asking security details or creating a call logging profile have noting to do with each other.

Yeah! They do have your RICA details*Name & Surname & ask you to verify ID when calling Telkom Mobile* They won't proceed without these details. They ask these security details before even assisting you which to me is ridiculous for a prepaid customer.

I get aggravated! I can understand where they coming from with all the fraud on SIM Swopping etc. Extra layer of security..
