I got my iPhone 5 29 Jan after waiting for almost a month. Open the phone . . .Awesome , stunning, beautiful . . .
So I charge the phone and everything works great (084 145 was really fast with sim activation). The next day i put the phone on charge and NOTHING happens. Naturally the first thing I did was change plugs but to no avail, the charger is completely dead but the cable still works. With the week being very busy I could only take the phone in to CellC today , so i got there and told them the charger is dead, the said , ok , it malfunctioned within 7 days so they have to exchange it but they have no new phones in stock. LOL ! They expect me to give up a working phone for another month. The best part of all is that i cant use any other phone because of the nano sim. LOL!!!!! The guy at cellc said its better if I just buy a new charger, LOL , so I must pay 300 bucks for a new charger or buy some non apple charger, WTF . . . :wtf:

Does the iPhone 5 not charge off a computer or any USB power source? I assume it's the charger and not the phone that is faulty?

If they don't have stock they don't have stock... If you'd prefer you can escape the contract and get a regular sim activated and join the waiting list again. I would rather get a new charger or just use USB.

Tell them to order you a charger. Why must they take back the phone just for a fault plug?

Apparently they can't order chargers, so i must either send the phone back, fork out 100 bucks for a sim swop, oh yes and buy a new phone to use in the meantime. Does CellC do loan phones ?

No. Seriously, just use USB? Far too much admin for a faulty charger...

Yah maybe im just going about this the wrong way , all PMS and shiz, i really dont care about plugging the phone into a pc to charge, im just really disappointed that its gonna be this much drama to replace a simple charger, im really happy with cellc as a network but not as a company. Ill probably end up buying a new charger at the istore just for the sake of completeness

Is there anything wrong with using a non apple charger?

If you must return it, don't do a sim swap. Just buy a nano/ micro sim converter - they usually are cheap.

I bet that you would have exactly the same issue with any other network (except 8ta, who has stock apparently - even then you'd have to wait for the charger to get tested for water damage bla bla). Also, consider that the Cell C store is actually a franchise and has to bare the cost of handing you a charger essentially for free.

The store will never see that money unless they follow the protocol. Again, corporate red tape blows.

I went through the same thing when i got my bb 9780 two years ago. the charger was faulty and i had to give in my phone with the charger instead of them just replacing it, the charger. They said it would take 3 weeks which was crazy. I already gave my old phone away and didnt have another so i was forced to buy a fake charger for 200 instead of a new one which was 700 at the time.

Here is a solution if you in Johannesburg... Contact CELL C rep and ask them nicely if they can exchange the faulty charger with one of their display units (Parktown, Rivonia), then they can return the display unit back to Apple. Problem solved you don't have to be a rocket scientist at all.. Then they can just replace the demo unit with a new phone out of the box. When they receive the other iPhone which will probably be sealed unless they want to run a diagnostic test on your iPhone.

Remember he didn't buy it outright if he did then he wouldn't complain for R300 but remember majority of people who have an iPhone didn't but it outright but on contract. *Easy Finance = Value for money*.

I remember back in the day when my Nokia charger was faulty took it directly to Nokia*VodaWorld* they swopped it immediately took a week just to check if it was faulty or go to iStore and ask them where their repair centre is. Then take it to them with your proof of purchase etc. They can probably swop it out as they are core worth a try.

Its not about the R300, its about the aggravation, ok, it is also about the R300.

Don't they have a walk-in centre like Vodacare ? Will make life much easier.

lol at everyone saying it's ok to just go pay the R300. On the same forum where people are changing ISPs at the drop of a hat at a R10 saving.

It's an absurd policy.

I know it's a long shot by why not try taking the adapter into one of the iStores and seeing if they can help you out?
