Gift of the Givers has been ordered to stop taking food and giving medical help to the hundreds of foreign nationals taking shelter at Cape Town's Central Methodist Church because the group's leadership is upset with the charity

Before their removal, Bassou said, they wanted the refugee agency to relocate them to a country other than their country of origin. They said they did not feel safe in South Africa anymore, were afraid of xenophobic attacks, and hoped there would be a third country that would be generous enough to host them.
I'm not sure how refugee agencies work, but is it the UNHCR's responsibility to find them another country to settle in?

You can't make it up.

They're an NGO and a relief organisation. They have zero power in terms of facilitating the movement of refugees.

It does sound like an absurd request, but for the same reason the EU cannot deport the migrants back to their origin.

The UK only deports back to the origin if their personal safety isn't at risk.

As for refusing the GoG's donations, that's just as dumb as it gets.

Are they refusing aid because it is coming from a different religious group that they belong to? That is silly but is expected.

Fine, starve /shrug
That might be what they want. They want to be seen starving to drum up sympathy - like, look how poor SA are treating us. Please first world, save us.

Question is why don't their home countries come get them anyway.
