2 things:

Why do these people just walk without looking or not stop when they see the vehicle coming.

Who do the drivers just slam on the acceleration when they can clearly see there's a stupid pedestrian in the middle of the road.

They have to to be stupid. Even if no one told you to look, it should be darn obvious to look when you cross a road with speeding vehicles.

And a zebra crossing, what's that?

I've noticed this as well. It's like the drivers want to show who's boss.

Out in the small towns around here, people just walk. On any day of the week, I can take you on a drive around town, and I guarantee that within ten minutes we will see at least one person just walk in front of the car without even a glance over their shoulder.

The gene pool needs cleansing, the survivors should be shot. Same goes for the drivers that ignore pedestrian crossings.

In South Africa you need to look right first as the cars coming from the right are closer to you.

I only realised much later, what Barney teaches kids will get you killed in SA. In London, I remember seeing many intersections with markings warning pedestrians to look right, for this very reason.

If you look both ways, regardless of the sequence, it's unlikely you will get killed.

The horn is your friend,
Cause if you hit somebody, your life is ruined..

That's not true. Guy I know killed a guy on the highway that ran in front of his car. Went to court, found innocent (pedestrians aren't supposed to be there) and that was that.

It's still an expensive and highly stressful thing to go through. I was in an accident where the passenger in the other car died, and it's no fun sitting in court while they decide if there will be charges brought and if so, against who, even when you know that it wasn't your fault (I was minding my own business when he overtook on a blind rise and hit me head-on).

I can imagine it's not fun to go through, but your life is not ruined.

Hectic schidt man ....

But then, in Europe and parts of the USA, pedestrians have right of way and cars actually stop for them ....

But you can ALWAYS spot the Saffer ... oh yes.

We stop, look left, right, left, right ... wait till there are no cars for mile or two, then run across .... or just say screw it, and stay on the side we are on.
well conditioned for our taxis.
