Hectic schidt man ....

But then, in Europe and parts of the USA, pedestrians have right of way and cars actually stop for them ....

But you can ALWAYS spot the Saffer ... oh yes.

We stop, look left, right, left, right ... wait till there are no cars for mile or two, then run across .... or just say screw it, and stay on the side we are on.
well conditioned for our taxis.

LMFAO that's so me :D

That's not true. Guy I know killed a guy on the highway that ran in front of his car. Went to court, found innocent (pedestrians aren't supposed to be there) and that was that.

It depends. If he were in an urban area it would be a completely different matter.

It all depends on the reasonableness of your case. If you're driving 60, and a child runs out from behind a wall and you did not have the necessary stopping distance, you can't be charged. The parents might be charged with neglect, though. If, however, you hit someone because you were over the speed limit, or you weren't reasonable in reducing your speed, driving defensively, etc., you can be charged.

On a freeway, you obviously require quite a bit more distance to stop, and your friend probably couldn't have avoided the accident at 120 km/h even if he tried.

Keep looking both direction while you cross. As a bicycle commuter I learned that very quickly.
