"Remote Computer did not repond" and Connection

I have just noticed something very strange:
I live approx 9km away from 4Ways and get a strong signal from tower 22 and 102 but have never been able to connect to them using the Modem dialler or MySignal (Always get the standard Remote Computer did not respond.) I usually connect to 12 or 82 (Mintek / Honeydew). I have just noticed however that If I use DynDNS updater from Kana Solutions and have it set to auto connect, it does soemtimes manage to connect to tower 22. If I then disconnect and try connect again through the dialler or standard dial up networking, I get an error again. I also do not get a successful logon through my ethernet router using PPPoE if the modem has locked onto tower 22. Has anybody else come across anything like this? Could it be that DynDNS updater is not checking for errors properly and somehow manages to connect?

It may also be that with the tower renumbering there is now a "new" 22 in your area ?

I stay about 1.8km from Radiokop and regularly pick up signal from 22-fourways in excess of 29% ... damn thing is powerful enough to be picked up on the moon... too bad it's not MEANT to be available in our areas ;-(

I don't think it is a new tower as I still do not connect to it using the dialler or dial up networking.

I think 9km is too far. Had the same thing in pta on the menlyn tower. Get full strong signal, but it's around 9km away. Spoke to the guys at nowire and they said that you need to be around 5-6km max from the tower, since the tower locks you out if you're outside the "servicing area" of that tower. It's pretty much like politics. If you're this side of the line you can't do this or that.
I think it has to do with preventing overload on a specific tower, since the infrastructure actully transmits further than 5km...

Im currently connected to 82 from the sandton area. The speed is pretty good on the tower (or was when I was downloading cb.zip earlier - avg 14KB/sec).

Which is 82 (after the renaming).. funny this. I connect to 82 at home (the new number for the ole favourite sunnyside 36)

That is exactly my point - 9km is too far and I have never been able to connect to this tower, however the other night I did manage to connect to it. However I am not able to connect to it again now.

I'm not sure how it works, but from the IPWireless site it spacifies two types of NodeB stations.
One can do a 3.5km cell and the other 30km cell. If we are using their infrastructure does that mean that Sentech is using
A: the 3.5km cell but manage to boost it up to around 5-6km or
B: theyr'e using the superell 30km system, but managed to set it up so badly that it only does 6km or
C: they're using the 30km system, but figured they can limit it to 6km for some unknown reason.

I'll check the spec's again ....

According to the last time ProAsm reported on the issue most of the towers were 6km towers. Only tower cells on the very outskirts of the coverage area were set to 30km.

The 3.5 km cell is used for the new 16 mbit transfer rates which in SA is only a pipe dream.
With Node Firmware 4.2.2.7 and above its either 6.5 km or 29 km.
SA uses 6.5 Km as 29 km is mainly for poorly populated areas like a large farming community.
Also the 29 km system uses twice the amount of bandwidth.
The few cells on the outskirts that were set on 29 km have been reset to 6.5 km
The older firmware (original installation) was 5.7 km

Welcome back PROASM........ hope the heat from HQ doesn't get after you again

Any chance of upgrading the tower positions on your site due to the number changes and NEW towers coming online
