Have any of you got a reccomendation for remote control software? Specifically LAN control software, I'm currenlty running a trial of Netsupport remote control. It's pretty good software, but I don't like the reponsiveness, it's a bit slow.

I'm sure I've got it configured correctly and I'm too lazy to browse though tucows or download.com. Hearing from a real person makes it so much better.
I've used huey remote control aswell, but I didn't like it at all.

Netsupport is pretty cool with all the features it has, I just need something with a bit more responsiveness.

I hear good things about Windows Remote Desktop functionality but haven't used it myself. I have been using VNC myself.

The thing I don't like about Xp's remote desktop is you have to create user accounts just to access the other pc, there has to be passwords and all that crap, it's a waste of time, Netsupport has encryption and it's pretty good. I don't like radmin, tried it, it's too "old" for my taste, testing VNC now.

If you have a Domain or Active Directory on your network Remote Desktop is the best solution. It allows the calling PC to take its disk mappings and printers over to the remote machine. It's very responsive and most times it's difficult to see any difference between the actual desktop and the remote access.

DameWare
allows remote install if receiving pc does not have the client ... you need to be admin to do that ... not free :(

*vnc is lightweight and free :)

Me again, I need some sound advice. I'm currently running two pc's on a network through a router, using the workgroup: workgroup and now I'm a bit lost with Dameware. It keeps asking me for a username and password to connect to the other pc on the network. It looks like a very promising program, and I'd like to test it out. What am I doing wrong?

I may need to start from the beginning and get Windows Remote to work first, then I can play around with these programs. What I have learned so far is, if you want to use Windows Remote Desktop, the user accounts need to have a password, am I right so far? And you use the pc name to connect to it and you log on with your username and password? Now, do I need to create a user account specifically for Remote Desktop and Assistance, or do I use the username and password of the specific pc?

Any help would be gladly appreciated, I'm no network buff, but some days I can be a total idiot, lol

Okay, seems like I got windows remote desktop to work, not sure about dameware yet.

Edit: I can't figure out what's the problem with Dameware, I've tried to use a network username and password aswell.

I need a mind that can tell me what to do. So tell me please, and I'll thank you.

;) hey my brother from another mother!
i luv dameware ... when you connect to another machine you can use that pc's local admin account or an account that has admin rights ... blank password will not work ... let me rephrase does not work in our corporate environment ... have not tested anywhere else?

Got it working thanks drowssap, it's got tons of options, way more than I would need. I'll test it for another few days and see if it's what I want.

ciao :D
