So if Renergen invested R8, and are getting few trillion back, and I invested 1000x more in Renergen ... I'm going to be very, very rich.

Aren't there any red flags that these guys got the Gas rights for an entire area for $1?

Was thinking the same but then again, imagine if our current government 'discovered' this helium? The ANC couldn't even bottle a fart let alone helium.

I thought you guys may have misread but....
Marani and chief operating officer Nick Mitchell bought the gas rights in the area for $1 in 2012, worth about R8 at the time.

Initially, they only had extraction of liquified natural gas (LNG) in mind, but their survey showed massive helium potential estimated to be worth more than $100 billion (R1.71 trillion).
Its literally right there in the article, holy cow its like discovering oil in Texas

It will be interesting to see what this does to the economy of the Free State.

Was it R8 because they promised the "commission" payments afterwards?

Maybe they bought the rights to thousands of acres of land very cheaply with the hope of finding some gas?

You can't make helium... its made when the planet is made.

Almost all of the helium on earth comes from decay of radioactive uranium in the earth's crust. Most of it vents into space, but some is trapped in the same reservoirs as natural gas.

The isotope ratio of He3 allows primordial sources to be distinguished from terrestrial sources which are entirely He4. See:
