Dear Cell C;

Thank you for setting the local broadband market alight last year! I have had great service from you on my 2GB bundle. Although there has been a few glitches at the beginning of this year, your CELL_C rep was persistent and helped resolve the tower issues in my area.

When your competition tried to play catchup, you have been a step ahead and released innovative new deals. The >R50 prepaid offering 500MB data, plus SMS etc is excellent.

I will be coming to the end my 1 year bundle in a few months. I would like to renew it with a sim only deal. However, I dont want to buy a new sim. Would it be possible to just buy another 1 year deal on the existing SIM that I have in my speedstick? I want to keep my cell number on this sim as I use it for voice with prepaid topup!

:D

Thanks for bringing this up! I would also like to know from Cell C whether it would be possible to renew my bundle on the current sim that I have. It would also be nice if users can migrate to different bundles. I for example would be interested in expanding my current 5GB deal to 10GB a month when it comes up for renewal in a few months time.

Agreed, waiting for them to offer this package OR a contract as a sim only option. Cell_C what do you say??

Brilliant news, just too bad it's a little late since I bought a 24GB promo just about a week or 2 ago :(

CellC - Some clarification please:

Any update on your email?
Is the promo coming to an end?
Can one purchase the sim now and activate a few months later?

Thanks

Hello torgo

I just personally feel, if you are coming to an end on your DATA.
I would not wait to long IF you want to get another one.

I've heard at the cellc store that if you want to take out a new 2Gb sim for R999 but only use it a few months later, just don't RICA it now and only RICA it when you want it activated. Data contract will start only then - for 1 year.

Is this correct?

Still no update on this? I'm kinda attached to my number now :(
I've been using a promotional data SIM in my mobile since November 2010, come December I'd also like to renew.
Since people have been able to port their numbers to data SIMs, I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to purchase a new data SIM and then migrate your existing number to it.

Is it that simple? Cellc?

According to this report, posted today, the 2 gig/month and 5 gig/month promotional bundles will cease end of this month

When Cell C launched their mobile broadband packages in September 2010 the company made it clear that it was only a promotional offer. It is however one year later and there is no sign that the promotion is at an end.

Instead of reverting to their standard broadband prices – which range from R50 for 100MB to R400 for 3GB – the company launched more aggressive high-end data bundles priced at R3,999 for 120GB (10GB per month) and R7,999 for 240GB (20Gb per month).

So can consumers expect these aggressive prices to stop in future or will it be more of the same from Cell C going forward?

Cell C’s executive head of marketing, Simon Camerer, revealed that Cell C plans to soon replace their launch promotions.

He said that the promotions have achieved the objective of putting Cell C on the map in South Africa and that they will be introducing new packages “in a couple of weeks time.”

They have just launched the 10g and 20g packages - so is the new 2g and 5g going to be more aggressively priced?

I have a feeling that the prices are going to go up rather than going down(I get this feeling from CELL_C rep statement.)

I bought one of these:

http://www.cellc.co.za/internet/page/data-products/3gb-smartdata-voucher

and simply loaded it onto my normal Cell C prepaid sim (not a specific data sim) just like you would ordinary airtime.
(not the same as the 3GB smartdata sim offer)

Got a +3GB data balance valid for 365 days.

However, the "buying" was the problem, as two out of the three Cell C stores I went to had no clue how to sell me this.
Eventually almost had to "fight" with them! Had to actually show them the web page on their own website!

They tried to give me a story of "no stock" (this is a virtual voucher printed at the till) or tried to sell me the 3GB R400 regular data bundle, which I think was only valid for 60days.

They also tried to tell me it wasn't on their system, but trust me it is there under virtual E vouchers/next..."3GB Data Voucher"

Just make sure it is the 3GB 365day airtime window one, for R399

It is valid for 365 days from the time you load/activate it.
Not sure how long you could hang on to the voucher before activating it, as the sales slip does not show that.
Not sure if their T&C's say how long a virtual voucher is valid for before loading/activating.
Might be useful to buy more than one!

You may have to print out the webpage and stick it under their nose though :whistling:
