Renewing Car License Disc Using a Notice Number

I will be renewing my car license disc at the Post Office. I received an SMS with a notice number and a note to present this number at the licensing offices. Is this number sufficient for doing the renewal at the Post Office, or will I have to fill out the normal form first?

I think the idea is that the Post Office or licensing Centre would be able to use this number to retrieve your information, but don't cause a scene if you are asked to fill a form, often these things are not communicated properly with the staff.
