Renewing my driver’s licence – The nightmare is not over

After battling for months to book a driver's licence renewal appointment online and waiting six weeks for my new licence card to be produced, the nightmare is still not over.

I believe the new SA drivers licence looks like a R50 note.

It must be noted, however, that licences which expire from 1 September 2021 onwards are not covered by this grace period, according to the department of transport.

Mine falls in this category - no extension !!!

This is starting to become like the whole TV license saga, people will stop trying to renew something if it becomes too much of an effort.

My licence expired earlier this year. Only realised it now. Got an appointment next week. Waited a week for the slot.
