Renewing my South African Passport - how?

Yeah - it was delivered today as a matter of fact. Now I just have to get it sent to me here.

If you live in SA how do you get around the residency requirement for renewing your UK licence? Technically you're not supposed to renew your licence if you no longer live in the UK, but practically I don't know how they would really enforce it if you can just give a family member's address to have the card delivered to.

I'm still a UK resident.

Just out of curiosity... I have a couple of hundred US Dollars & a friend saw them, so she was busy telling me I could get arrested if they found me with US dollars because I didn't change them back to rands after returning from holiday (just before lockdown). Do I really have to change back my dollars to rands or can I keep them for my next trip (whenever that may be)?

The exchange control regulation says you must sell back to an exchange authority within 30days of returning or that you can hang onto it if you are leaving again in 90days.

Technically you are breaking the law, but in reality no one cares.

At what level did the online passport applications open? 2 or 1? I see its down again now claiming COVID-19. I mean literally banks are open, post offices etc. They're just a lazy bunch looking for excuses not to work.

If I understand correctly it’s not only online passport applications/renewals that’s closed?

I'm glad I took the time to apply for a second passport 5 years into my first one, nice to have a backup and the assurance I always have one that's valid with enough time to replace the expired one.

I've managed to figure out their new HTML5 website, when using edge its fine, with chrome it lags a lot!

Bookings are plentiful, I will be doing my passport renewal on Monday
