Hi
I want to know if someone can give me advice. Me and my finance is renting a one bedroom granny flat, now for 1 year and 3 months. In January my finance lost his job, and at the end of Febraury I could only afford to pay one third of the rent. I told my landlord that I will try and get the rest of the money, and if not, would he please use my deposit in the meantime. He was very very upset and told me that we will have to be out of the flat in 7 days. As we could not, and do not have the money for a new deposit for a new place, we asked him if we can still stay, as from this month I will be able to pay the full rent as I got a raise. He then told me that he have a new tenant that already paid him rent and e full deposit for April. This previous weekend he took out the hose for my washing machine so that I am unable to use it. We have no signed contract. What are my rights? Thanks

not a cool situaton to be in. That said, put yourself in the landlords boots. What if he/she has payments to be made and relies on this rental income to pay them? Does he tell his creditors the same story you've told him?

That said, you guys have been there for over a year and (assuming) you've always paid in full, on time. Its a crap move on the landlords part to not give some leeway. Try to come to some sort of agreement is about the best advice in this situation?

Crap situation in the extreme of course.

BUT, you have put the landlord in a bind ultimately. You informed him of your inability to pay the rent, so he gave you notice. Granted 7 days is probably not enough, but he has given you notice.

Your inability to pay deposit on a new place etc etc, is ultimately not his problem at all.
