Renters in South Africa taking pain

The rising cost of living has meant that many tenants have had to increase the proportion of their salaries dedicated to rent - with some provinces' rental prices rising faster than others.

And go where? No. Government should get more involved here. They are not actively involved in regulating this industry against property owners. Our new generation wants everything free.

It’s actually not bad.

With one province’s average rent increasing by over 55% over the past ten years, the cost of living has been hurting many bottom lines.

Since 2014, the national average of rent has risen from R6,247 to R8,654 per month – with tenants increasing the proportion of their salaries dedicated to rent from just over 20%, to between 26.6% and over 30% in Q1 2024.

I don't think people want things to be free but rather affordable.

One basic good job should in a good world be able to get you a House, car, non working wife and two kids.

Shame poor renters. They should buy a property if they want to know real pain...
