I'm in Richards Bay, 035-753-XXXX exchange (Meerensee) and this problem just hit me today. Anybody else in my area with the same problems? Got kicked off the WoW server at work (yep I play WoW at work lol :p ) just before I left and I came home to see it wasn't just at work...rather irritating

-EDIT-

4mb line apparently

As of 9:25PM it's still doing the same thing. Either the magical "specialist" from Springs didn't pitch, or he couldn't figure the problem out and gave up.

Anyone had any other feedback from Telkom or their technicians? I can't even get through to their helplines today, too congested...

Hmmm, I'm in Brackendowns, recently they connected us to a new fibre metro DSLAM which cut the distance of the copper in half, was able to move from 2meg to 4meg but since then I've also had issues. erratic speeds, and random disconnects where I need to restart the router to re-sync. Possibly also related. Called the Telkom helpdesk they said there's a problem in the area, 2 weeks later a techie comes and checks everything at our residence and says there's no issues anywhere and maybe we must drop line speed  no thanks

No, these aren't random disconnects or problems with line quality. These are 5 minutes of downtime, roughly every 25 minutes, and this has been going on since last Thursday. We have had nothing approaching an explanation from anyone about this, no technicians have reported back to the call centre on this, nothing. It's almost like they either don't want to admit there's a problem or know there's a problem and are unable or unwilling to resolve it.

Telkom guy just phoned me, I explained the problem and he said it could be an issue of congestion at the exchange and he will look into it...

How could congestion result in outages of EXACTLY FIVE MINUTES every 25 or so minutes? It's bizarre. Nobody seems to know what the problem is. A test centre guy phoned me at 7am to tell me my fault was resolved. I told him that no, it WAS NOT resolved. They closed it anyway.

What the hell is going on at that Exchange?!!

I have had issues with Telkom since November 11. I use MWEB and Axxess and both ISP`s have the same pattern of dropped connections. I am in Glenvista X4 and trade currencies full-time. The unstable connection has forced me to stop trading for a week and this has obviously cost me a lot in lost revenue.

The frustrating issue is that there appears to be intentionally misinformation and/or lack of information regarding the real nature of the problem.

After countless telephone calls , escalations and promises , NOTHING.... it is now Day 7....

I was told by one consultant that Glenvista now has 713 ADSL users and that this is part of the problem?????

I suspect that the "other" reasons will be always be hidden from the suckers that have no choice but to deal with Telkom.

I'm scared to disconnect in case it's too good to be true, but my connection's been up since 7:20PM - it's 10PM now. Let's hope this means they've fixed it. Willy, any news? And Trader1, you got anything good to report?

I am up and running for the last 2 hours with no issues.....touch wood.. it is 00h25 and latency on MWEB is pathetic but Axxess is quite good, download speed same pattern , tests done on Speedtest.
I remain sceptical because it is not peak usage period and the acid test will be in the morning when normal activity resumes .

It appears as if the Telkom issues at Glenvista exchange have been resolved based on the connectivety logs from around 21h00 yesterday. I have had no disconnect problems on 4 PC`s running both MWEB and Axxess.
Hopefully the solution will a lasting one and won`t take 8 days to resolve in future. No official feedback from Telkom yet and I won`t hold my breath either..also not expecting a glossy Xmas card this year.

Well looks like the optimism was to be short-lived. The internet was fine all weekend, however this morning at around 10AM the every 25 minute line drop for 5 minutes story started happening again.

If you have this problem, log a fault with Telkom NOW. Phone at least twice a day and NAG them, SHOUT if you have to. We cannot let this issue go for another week before they resolve it (temporarily) again!

If you think you MIGHT be having this problem, run a dos prompt and do "ping -t www.mweb.co.za" and let it run. If you get several timeout errors in a row (like more than 10) note the time and also note when it comes back up. If it turns out you DO have this issue, please post in this thread with your exchange and any other pertinent details.

Yup, same problem since 10h20 this morning, I have spoken to Telkom, problem at Glenvista exchange has not been resolved and the fault is still open.
I have moved into a temporary office in Alberton , it is incovenient but at least I can run my business. R25K out of pocket to date thank you Telkom!
