Report: Russian ship delivered weapons to SA, not other way around

The contents of containers offloaded at the South African military’s Simon’s Town naval base by a Russian cargo ship — the Lady R — included “armour-piercing incendiary shells” and machine guns suitable for mounting on aircraft.

This is according to the Sunday Times, which said it had been informed of this by a “highly placed government source.”

It said the source was not authorized to speak to the media and therefore wished to remain anonymous.

Why can't this source go on the record and bring closure to the allegations? We have previously had government insiders, or otherwise sources, which mislead the media and in so the public. This being the media, their sources are protected under their privileges. Either they have a credible source, a made-up source or is being served with inaccuracies to persuade the public opinion.

The USA must recognise now that a media outlet in SA is questioning their intentions, asking them why they lied.

I have to ask what in our arsenal uses Russian made armour-piercing incendiary shells? What Russian-made weapons are employed by the SANDF? Is this related to the SADC mission? On what helicopters do we plan to mount a Russian spec standard machine gun? Thandi Modise said that the weapons were delivered to the SF. We are creating more questions than giving answers.

The media is now sure involved in shaping how the matter must be perceived. Who needs to wait on an inquiry...

The real Russian arms saga villain is a loose cannon

US ambassador Reuben Brigety, having started a diplomatic veldfire, has gone quiet as a mouse in the face of requests for evidence to back his claim

The last time I read, Ramaphosa said that there will be an inquiry to which the US will provide their evidence. Now suddenly the onus is being placed on Brigety.

As stated before, Brigety boo has a history of jumping the gun, he constantly abuses his soft power and as Pandor said, he needs to understand the difference between party and state

Now that is a massive reach, and not even a valid answer. The US government issued a warning to its people and employees. On this you take the position that they abused their powers.

Oh, please, twice also does not make a constant, next answer, please.
He published the threat on twitter, a public platform before informing the government and did not support local authorities on their intelligence sources or any other details
Does he not understand the gravity of the chaos and potential danger caused by his brash and irresponsible actions

The SA government was informed. The US went public when the SA government ignored the information.

US APPROACHED SA AUTHORITIES OVER CONCERNS BEFORE ISSUING TERROR ALERT - SOURCES

The communique was issued on the embassy's website on Wednesday afternoon, warning that it had received information that terrorists may be planning to conduct an attack targeting large gatherings of people at an unspecified location in the greater Sandton area.

JOHANNESBURG - While the government has noted the terror alert issued by the US embassy, Eyewitness News understands that this time around, the Americans had made local authorities aware of its concerns before warning its own citizens of possible danger.

The US also has an obligation to warn its own citizens and employees.

Say the attack materialised, would you have still had this outlook?

He is a loose cannon as the Sunday times editor has stated

Actually the Sunday Times editorial called him a villain in addition to being a loose cannon.

This sound like a bunch of horse shat lies, why would Russia give us weapons when they need it much more at the moment? Anyway who does SA want to use these weapons against? Last week their was talk about SA combat readiness with the Russia somethings are not adding up and they trying to cause a lot of confusion here so people do not find out the truth!

The US isn't taking issue with us importing Russian arms, they are taking issue with us exchanging arms with Russia. They told and showed us that they have evidence, and we called it unsubstantiated or more precisely not being concrete. Now they put the question to us whether we gave arms to the Russians? A question which could not be denied without having an inquiry into the matter.

Now, all some are doing is launching uninventive attacks on Brigety's good name. The sooner we ventilate the matter, the better, right?

I am certain that more such articles will be published.
