Paranoid much? Kids are supposed to be surveiled. We're supposed to know what they're up to. Schools and by extension government have always had the mandate to keep an eye on them. So what's changed? Oh we now have the technology to know what they're up to all the time. Are you a Luddite?

Delusional much? You seem to think politicians and gov are benevolent things, they’re not, they want power and control and will do and say anything to get it and keep it. I don’t mean in some crazy tinfoil hat, Midnight Wizard beautiful mind kind of way, but they’re not there for the masses benefit by any stretch. Everyone seems to have forgotten this and that gov and by extension politicians are there to serve the people.

Just because we have the means to do something doesn’t mean we should.

Kids are supposed to be surveiled? Really, I feel sorry for any kids you have, probably watch over them 24/7 without a single moment to them selves, or the chance to make any mistakes or fail at anything, you’ll probably sweep in and rescue them from themselves before they can. Sure you have to watch small kids, but once they hit teens they do need some privacy to experiment and discover things for themselves. Of course you need to know what’s going on, but not with24/7 surveillance on their every move, which is what this is all about.

So instead of finding out who the troubled kids are just get rid of the guns they might hurt themselves and others with?
A balance that involves both? I mean past reports have suggested the 8chan chatter is hard to decipher to differentiate the keyboard tough guys from those who tip over all the way over. Surveillance is going to just pick up a lot of crap that's hard to filter for real threats & in the process trample on people's rights.

Let's distinguish between facts and fiction...

This is about CCTV in schools and on the street, which helps preventing crime and catching criminals.

Let's, maybe you should go and read the article.

require public schools to use surveillance technology to monitor students’ online behavior for signs of violence or self-harm.

....
Millions of American students, across thousands of school districts, are already being monitored by tech companies that scan everything they write in school emails, chats and shared documents, looking for signs of suicidal thoughts or plans for a school shooting. This surveillance technology doesn’t turn off when the school day is over: anything students type in official school accounts is monitored 24 hours a day, whether they are in their classrooms or their bedrooms.

There is still no research evidence that demonstrates whether or not online monitoring of schoolchildren actually works to prevent violence.
Nothing in the article mentions cameras or CCTV, it's all about online monitoring.

The only way to curb crime in South Africa is mass surveillance - I support it fully.

Better clear all your search histories, comb you social networks for any photos the government may find 'offensive' and any interests you have that may be considered 'anti social' should be dropped immediately.

Ummmm
'surveillance technology to monitor students’ online behavior for signs of violence or self-harm.'
That is not CCTV
Yep.
More like Social Engineering by the government to gain further access, control and more intrusive surveilance cleverly disguised under "safety" so as to sway public opinion as it revolves around schools and children.

If you aren't already taking precautions online to keep your activities anonymous, and off the radar you are a fool.

So you are saying that CCTV has zero impact on crime?

BS...

How has any public surveillance had a negative impact on any law abiding citizen?
Make sufficient laws such that any person could be breaking several laws at any time. That's what they've done in the US.
