I've previously posted http://www.unchained.co.za/iBurst/ relating to UTD access via telnet.

I'd like to expand www.unchained.co.za with info and links relating to iBurst and broadband in general, eg bandwidth monitors, speed test sites, useful utilities / info, etc. Please pm contributions or mail to info (at) unchained (dot) co (dot) za and indicate whether / how you or your source need to be acknowledged.

Edit: I have some (hopefully relevant) info on the site.
Note: The intention is not to duplicate easily accessible info on MyADSL (eg ic's FAQ) or elsewhere, but rather aggregate distributed info to support accessibility.

Suppose you can harvest a few tip etc. from the ic's FAQ page

Otherwise I found this document at ArrayComm quite helpful in understanding how an iBurst network is put together & what technology & protocols are used. The golden question as usual is how have WBS decided to put their network together?

I can already see one major deviation from the ArrayComm/Kyocera recommendations which advise that bw management get done on the LNS router (usually a Cisco 7200 series). It seems WBS have decided to use an external 'self customised' bw mgmt system instead, which is a tad dodgy.

I can see why they did it ... so that WBS site is always fast & capping can occur in-session without the need for session reset (like on Telkom's ADSL).

The problem is, if your going to get fancy like this, make sure you know what your doing!

That, and they probably used locally made antennas on the basestations.

Not sure about that one? I often drive past the new Linden BS, the one on top of a church, and it looks pretty much like this picture from Japan. Looks like a 2nd gen Kyocrea antenna mast?

GRES, whenever I drive past the Linden BS I always try to look if there are any microwave dishes for connecting the BS to the rest of the network. Haven't seen any however the view from the road is not 100%

Do you know if the BSs are inter-connected via microwave ?
