I've sent request for this a number of times to support@telkomsa.net. As expected of Telkom, I did not even get an acknowledgement that the email was received.

Therefore the public call:

Please provide a decent local FTP mirror service.

Internet Solutions does a much better job than Telkom - see ftp.is.co.za

I believe that at least ibiblio.org and sunsite should be mirrored by an establishment the size of Telkom.

But, Ok, I realise such an effort would dent the profitability of Telkom, and we don't have to expect anything like this soon.

South Africa needs World Class Broadband at World Competitive Prices.

If their excuse is it would impact on their profitability, this would be first class BS - infrastructure costs are minimal for a server/disk RAID farm these days and would have a negligible imapct on their revenues as published. Probably more a case of unwillingness to provide a service due to attitudinal stance ('state mentality' - we've got enough work, we don't need to make more for ourselves), lack of appreciation of customer requirements versus their offerings ('there's no real revenues here, so we will not provide the service'), or maybe just plain and simple a lack of competency...
