What's the point of reopening that line?

Apparently no one uses the trains anymore, even on the lines that are currently running because the service is so poor, never on time and very few scheduled trains each day.

It makes even less financial sense to open this particular lime because almost all the line and cable infrastructure was stolen during the lockdown so they have to essentially rebuild the line from near scratch.

Seems unnecessary, I’m sure the train would’ve taken care of them.

The tracks are probably stolen far away enough for a derailment without damage to the shacks.

Good luck with that here.

The problem here is:
A - They are building with cement foundations right on the train tracks.
B - Some ahole told these people this is what they must do. And they believed him/her.

Specifically to make the country, or in this case Cape Town, worse. Intentionally.

Just run them over with the train, we can then find them graveyard space.

I am honestly so freaking sick and tired of everyone thats moved to Cape Town, then demanded we give them everything for free.

Work for your damn land!!! The rest of us tax payers that has to pay for all you want free, we work hard for ours.

Or go back to where you come from, because it sure as not aint from Cape Town

Getting bold, covid regulations make it impossible to stop.

And the full on settlement now with permanent structures on the pavement verge just before the Obs PnP centre on Main Street. It's nuts!

Surely we are not still under the lockdown regulations that prevent illegal squatters being removed?

I know in the USA they had a huge issue with encampment on public spaces after the homeless took advantage of lock down regulations that prevented their removal but that's not the case anymore in most places and encampments have been removed.

What happened to moving your vast number of businesses to Kaapstad then?

PRASA won the case.
Squatters to be forcably booted.
Yay!

Prasa has been granted a court order to evict residents from the Siyahlala informal settlement after they built shacks on the railway tracks in Langa.

The order was granted on Friday by the Cape Town High Court and the residents are expected to be moved to another piece of land on a farm in Stellenbosch Road, Eerste River ......

Good news.
More worrying that it had to take the high court to tell the stupid fsckrs this.

didnt quite win, they need to be provided with houses and services (by coct/Province/national) and they could still refuse to move.
this order incentivises queue jumping, just invade a dangerous, highly illegal space and one gets free houses (emergency housing like TRAs prob) and better 'court ordered' services
