[RESOLVED] Problematic 3G tower

Hi

Where and how do I report a problematic Telkom tower to? :confused:

The symptoms include (but are not limited to) :

- Full signal, but no throughput
- SIM takes long to register
- Sometimes there is throughput, but it is very, very slow (almost useless).
- Emails and web browsing does not work. Neither is there connectivity to the iStore.
- Android and iOS devices are affected.

I have tried different DNS servers, and another Telkom prepaid SIM card as well, but the conditions persists. Taking the SIM's in question to a different location (work) all works 100% without any configuration changes at all.

Do you have the Cell Id and LAC?
Use something like the "GSM Signal Monitoring" APP from the Play store to check these values.

A RX-level is -95 is not ideal.
It would probably be ok for voice, with some distortion, but it might cause stability issues for data.
The cell and lac info is not on http://opencellid.org. You can also search for your address, then you can get an idea of how far the tower is from your home/work.

Had a look around with other apps and so on.

If I force my SIM to MTN, speeds are great and the MTN tower is not far away.

However, if I drop it back to Telkom, there is a tower faaaaaaaaaar in the diatance (almost close to Laudium) that my equipment try to connect to.

It seems as if the telkom infrastructure close to our place is not worth it.

Will definitely cancel my SIM with them as I cannot use their service. Will have to get iburst then.
