Retired police officers, judges, magistrates and others will be lured back to the criminal justice system to help fight crime. This was decided at a meeting between government and business leaders in Pretoria.
Business leaders met Charles Nqakula, the safety and security minister, and Brigitte Mabandla, the justice minister, to discuss ways to fight the current crime wave.
Nqakula says an immediate review of the criminal justice system is to be undertaken. Micheal Spicer, the chief executive of Business Leadership SA, says both government and business will second senior executives to the initiative.
Nqakula says something needs to be done to mobilise ordinary people in the fight against crime. He says the police will recruit former experienced officers to help in the training of new recruits.
