Angola. They will pay you the dollars, lots of expats from all over the place, and you can get short term contracts

Your best bet would be Tullow in Cape Town or one of the other oil companies.

Plenty of work in the field down here.

Well the moolah there is pretty good. I can't advise any further, but some of the figures I've seen first hand are in excess of R200'000pm ;)

Did you buy that Mustang?
Wifey did not like the Mustang, so ended up buying the Hyundai Elantra limited. Biggest regret, but maybe a good decision, because I pretty sure that I would have received speeding tickets if I drove a Mustang.

I have friends making about R300k pm. Angola is not a bad option

Thanks to all for the replies please keep them coming.

I am as Black as they come, not light skinned, really BLACK. The color of my skin will not help me get a job in SA. I know SA is corrupt, and this is one of the top things that really discourage me from coming back. As well as crime. I may be generalizing to some extended, but in order to get anywhere in SA you have to be politically connected. To move this country forward, corruption will have to be eliminated.

Another generalization, SA is racist in nature, people see color before everything.

I have been actively job hunting in SA for the last 4 years, I stopped applying for vacancies in state entities about 3 years ago because those vacancies are filled by "The Politically connected" before they are even advertised.

"Sorry about politics, got a little carried away, derailing my own thread."

Your never going to forget the past :D

Anyways, married for 2.5 yrs and wifey 7 weeks pregnant.

Uh huh ....

Typically field engineers have mechanical engineering or instrumentation engineering backgrounds.
