Received 3 smses stating the following: Seems to be legit - senders number +2712311xxxx

Rica Fraud Customer using Fictitious name & Address. Customer has to present proof of ID/ passport and confirmation of residential address at Telkom / 8.ta direct shop

Now I question whoever captures our details during RICA process if they even bother to capture the correct details.

Unfortunately I am not close to any Telkom Direct store or 8.ta shop, refuse to travel over 200 KM.

Update:
Just got off the phone with Telkom Mobile, they say it is a hoax SMS!

Clarity on this Telkom Mobile.

Update 2: Phoned the number and apparently when they pick up they say they from Telkom.

Of course its a hoax...

RICA is a complete and utter waste of time.

My Vodacom contract wasn't properly RICA'd until a year after the cut off date when I went in to do an upgrade. The day before the cutoff date it magically went from UnRICA'd to RICA'd....

A guy on the street was handing out pre-paid sim cards that were already Rica'ed. Not sure how this is possible.

A fellow came into the shop and handed us 5 CellC SIMs, all pre-RICA'd. Two were micro-SIMs and I gave one to my neighbour since she fancied the number. It proved faulty after a few months and she took it to the CellC shop for a new one (swap). It cost her R5,00 and no hassle at all
