Rich Americans are leaving the US and setting up camp in Switzerland... It is when the average man on the street starts saving every penny to leave and willing to be a poor and nothing_person on the other side when you need to worry (which BTW is happening already just not as much yet)

It looks like we are going to see a lot of tax increases. I work bloody hard for my money and I worked hard to get where I am now. Keep having to pay more taxes just to see the taxes being wasted.

If I could I would have left too.

No need to worry, replacements will come easily , will probably be better any way.

I know 2 public school teachers personally, that teach in average (middle class areas) schools. I'm assured that the combination of the attitudes of the previously disadvantaged towards school discipline and education in general, coupled with governments management of the education system , will all combine to ensure a surplus of talented scientists and engineers etc in this country.

A great future awaits all that remains here.

This is one significant factor when dealing with staying.
What are the rules on having two places... e.g. I live and work abroad and come to SA for 3 months of the year (for example)?

I left 5 years ago, have no intention of returning, the best thing my family and I did. If I had to do it all again I wouldn't think twice. I can tell you that emigrating is no joke, it has been tough, but definitely not as tough as staying in SA. looking back to before Cyril got "elected" as pres there was great expectation, but hes no better than those that came before. we had R100 000 to our names when we left

Minor correction to the article, and many others that make this mistake, there was also a reduction in $ millionaires due to the drop in the USDZAR of 25% from this time last year.

There is also a difference between high income and wealthy, so I wouldn't assume that the exec's you've mentioned are wealthy.

Anyway, that's all technical. The bottom line is that yes, we have a skills drain in SA which has accelerated massively in the last 5 years again (as it did in the 1990s). The skills drain has been in place since the 1980s when the country was bankrupt, slowed as it grew a bit in the late 90s early 2000s and has accelerated MASSIVELY(tm) that it is now bankrupt again.

The questions is......
Does the ANC actually read these statistics?
The tax base is declining but they want to either increase current taxes or introduce new taxes...........to fund ANC cadres and to fund free loaders.

- The rich are leaving South Africa. Those that are still here for a while, the ANC is financially destroying.
-The middle-class......the people that can afford to leave, are leaving and the people that are staying, the ANC is financially destroying.
-Only poverty will be left over

My money is overseas already, out of the grubby clutches of the ANC. We are off next year. And I'm not anywhere close to being rich.

A poll would be interesting to see who's left. There was one a while back something along the lines of thinking of leaving, making plans, not leaving.

How many have followed through and have actually left? (I left about 8 years ago and have never looked back)

How much did it cost you to leave? Most people don't even have 100k in savings TOTAL.
