Moved to Malta with the wife and kids in March 2019 with around R175000 (after plane tickets and shipping of our things). So far it has been the best decision I have ever made. Climate is very similar to South Africa, taxes we pay go into free schooling and medical, and English is spoken by almost everybody. Even though it's a small island, you can use the Residence card to travel throughout the EU countries. I would recommend it for anyone who can do it. Just the peace of mind alone is worth it.
Quick question, is there fiber or decent internet, and is there something like free standing properties ( you know a house with a yard like we are used to as Zaffies, I'm a country boy so lego block stacking houses doesn't seem appealing )

I would say €1500 sounds about right. IT based jobs are probably a bit higher though.
My offices are based in Ta' Xbiex, so the average trip via car during peak hour traffic is about 20 - 30 minutes. Via the bus system, it's around 45 - 60 minutes.

Not bad at all - thanks for info !

Free standing properties are difficult to find, and the ones you find are super expensive. As the island is so small, all the apartments look very much stacked together, however from my experience, that can be deceiving. The apartment I stay in and the the apartments of other people I know are very spacious. Once you're inside, you don't feel cramped at all.

As for the internet, Malta's infrastructure is really good. The have a combination of ADSL, Cable and Fibre. I went for the cable option, and for €33 a month, I get 250 Mbps and uncapped. You can get smaller packages, but I think the lowest my provider offers is 30 Mbps at €20. Been here almost two years and my connection has never failed and I always get full speeds.
