Has anyone actually figured out what the theme was?

Its pretty clearly a commentary and discourse of Christianity via visual art.

The last supper , depicted with the little piggies on the left dollar signs overhead, - symbols of greed and feeding at the trough all under the guidance of 'a clown"
The lamb display with skulls - the dead in relation to 'the lamb' symbolic of christ, or maybe how many must die in the name of 'the lamb'
etc etc.

But then without the bio posted for each piece one can only speculate about what each piece actually represents or symbolises.
Unfortunately the video in the OP only focuses on the works and doesnt zoom in on the bio's.

Art pieces done in school usually have a theme. It can be really broad so that the students can interpret it in almost any way this isn't set by each individual school, but by the department of education. They have a standardised curriculum.

This is probably only the work of one or two students.

I think the dept might have tried to go political and encouraged social commentary and this student have some issues with religion.

Its an independant school , they dont have to follow the conservative government mandated curriculum.

My take on this.....

I actually think this work is all from one student.

The father who was complaining about it in the video , is a pastor and so did take offense to it.

I think the artwork is fantastic and, contrary to what has been said, I would not be surprised if the student actually is still religious and is upset about the way he views the route his religion has taken (but it could be that he is athiest - we won't know unless he comes out and says so).

The tone I get from the artwork is that commercialism and marketing of religion has got to such a point that it rivals the big name brands. Ine of the biggest world wide brands that market themselves extremely well and makes huge profits is the fast food giant McDonalds hence the reason why Jesus is constantly likened to Ronald Mcdonald. Religion and Mcdonalds can be found on every continent and bascally in every country around the globe probably the reason why the reference.

Also the fact that religion is going this route with regards to commercialism also leans towards what religions are constantly attacking as big companies being evil and only in it for money, but now religion is going this route hence probably the reason why showing artwork referring to Jesus taking direction from the devil.

Also the child on the lap of Jesus being "shown the way" probably implies that as a child you are not allowed to choose your path under a religious household as they will dictate which path to take.

This child is smart and he has the talent, and all the people claim that their is rage or anger in the artwork is ludicrous. the Artist has an opinion about something and he showed it in the best way he knows how, through his art.

It is a pity that the Pastor didn't take the time to post the Bio of the artwork he filmed which would explain what the artwork is supposed to depict.

Also the idiots claiming the art teacher should not have allowed it is also stupid, the one class in School where they try and enforce you to have your own ideas and passion is in art, because art is supposed to be about you and your feelings.

I think that Pastor has just kick started this students art career

20 years ago when I was in school this wouldn't fly. The kid would've been expelled (shortly after being visited by the SAP Occult Unit - remember them?), never mind the artwork actually being displayed. I speak from personal experience.

Let's be honest: the only motive here was to be as offensive as possible. The only difference between now and back then is that today it's allowed, and often encouraged. And of course, we have social media now, and everyone has a voice.

I'm sure **** like this happened every now then, but it was just swept under the rug to save face, because we never heard of it. Of course, everything gets out in 2019, and again because of social media, it's suddenly everyone else's business, too.

I have to give the guy in the video kudos tbh. He's not anonymously posting on some forum somewhere trying to be a keyboard warrior - he's actually showing face, and standing up for what he believes in - whether we believe it, too, or think it's a load of hogshit, it's having a far more powerful impact than anything we're doing here.

Is what the kid did wrong? Absolutely not. It appears to be some sort of cry for help, and the school should do the right thing.
