Hahaha, THAT is all in your deluded boof head

The actual stupidity is people claiming the universe is meaningless and THEN claim people can create their own meaning. Little stupid narcissists thinking their brains can create something from nothing.

Sorry, but atheism itself is useless. It has no positive content or beliefs. It really is not that hard to understand.

Exactly. Not that difficult to understand see. That is all it is. Nothing else. No positive content or beliefs.

They are totally stupid if they do claim that right?

Thanks for the unnecessary concern trolling. But you are either deluded or too stupid to think if you claim the universe is meaningless you can find meaning, subjective or not.

Meaning is subjective, else how could you interpret god giving everyone 100 religions if belief in him is so obvious?

Likewise saying the universe has meaning thu god is a contradiction, the universe has no meaning to the bacteria sitting on the edge of your nose or it has no meaning to a child who died at birth.

what is the grand test and meaning? to watch everyone die? to serve as a horrible warning to others? all you have are deluded people trying to justify their dumb behaviour and make others feel bad for theirs

You keep echoing that sentiment without substantiating it. I gave examples of ways in which people can find meaning in their lives. Why would any of them be predicated on a 'meaningful' universe?

It seems to me that the only basis for your bizarre claim is an unusual interpretation of what constitutes a meaningful or purposeful life. So perhaps start by defining how you have interpreted that.

When I saw this thread was 30 pages in, how did I know it had devolved into this exact debate?

Look, it is quite simple what you need to do. Square this circle for people:
1) The universe is meaningless.
2) There is meaning in people's thoughts.

Either you are right that people can create their own meaning... but that implies that the universe really is not meaningless since there is meaning in people's thoughts.
Or the universe in meaningless and you can shout at the top of your lungs that people can create meaning but in the end you are just talking BS. Come on Captain try-hards, try a little harder.

There is no meaning in people's thoughts though. Most of the point of meditation and mindfulness is training yourself to ignore the gibberish produced constantly by your mind and redirect your stream of consciousness to produce more productive real world outcomes.

Lol. Please say the following sentences out loud to yourself while looking at the mirror:
1) It's almost impossible to box in the various ways people find meaning for themselves.
2) This is no meaning in people's thoughts though.

There wouldn't be an issue doing so. Those are unrelated statements. Your actions and your perspective on those actions is what will provide a sense of purpose if you're so inclined.

Your moment to moment thoughts are a separate matter, and more often than not, run contrary to your goals. Meditation and mindfulness exists to help in that regard.

It amazes me how you still try to BS yourself. The one moment you want yourself to believe that there is no meaning in your thoughts and the next moment you wax lyrical how your "Your actions and your perspective on those actions is what will provide a sense of purpose if you're so inclined". Are your split personalities able to communicate to each other? Try to get the one that believes that there is no meaning in your thoughts to tell the other one that those thoughts of purpose, mindfulness etc. are ll meaningless. The second peronality really needs to get a clue.

I'm starting to suspect I'm just dealing with an expert level troll here.

But if not, think back to the various ways people feel that their life has meaning or purpose. Absolutely none of those things are thoughts. They are complex outcomes achieved through a sequence of actions.

You seem unable to separate things from other things. Eg. because I feel my life has a purpose therefore this world has a purpose and this universe has a purpose and all my thoughts have purpose etc. Very strange philosophy, but if your sense of purpose is derived from taking refuge in it then keep doing what you're doing.

You don't have to convince me people create meaning in their lives. Your problem is explaining how this is possible when thoughs and the universe are meaningless. You can't but no doubt you will keep on waffling BS.

Why would you get hung up on such an insignificant point? It is easy to understand why someone might feel a particular aspect of their life gives them an overall sense of purpose.

People want to feel that they matter, that their actions have had noticeable outcomes, that they have impacted the lives of others and to feel satisfied with their standard of living. In most cases, people want to be recognised for positive effects but obviously that is not always the case. It's really just wanting to feel relevant, wanting to be a net contributor and/or desiring the welfare of oneself and one's community. There are an infinite variety of ways that some combination of those outcomes can be achieved and maintained, hence why I said you cannot box in that which gives people a sense of purpose. Even doing it abstractly like this requires casting a wide net that cannot envelop everyone.

Another problem with your argument is that a very large number of people do not feel that their life has any purpose. It's one of the most common points of discussion raised by therapists with depressed clients. Is that, therefore, evidence that their thoughts and the universe have no purpose? Of course not - it's totally irrelevant. Just like with the opposite case of feeling that you do have purpose.

The onus is not on me or anyone else to prove claims made without evidence. It is a gargantuan leap to claim that because a person can feel that their life has purpose, that their thoughts and the entire universe must also have purpose. If I claim that there are intergalactic flying pink elephants, you are not responsible for disproving that claim if it was made with no evidence. It's enough for you to say that my claim is meritless and warrants no further discussion.

So I guess I'll end this pointless debate by saying that your claims are meritless and warrant no further discussion.

I see you are just going to waffle on and on about how meaningless your thoughts and the universe are while simultaneously claim people find meaning. Totally stupid but I guess holding onto a crackpot metaphysics like materialism makes people lose their minds and make them look stupid.

That is different to what we were debating and actually gives atheism more credit, as that is what has always been implied by us - people create their own meaning through what means they have at the time. storms used to be the gods being angry, plagues used to be god's punishment, mutant babies used to be a bad omen, but all thee things are explained by science now that we don't give meaning to them any more.

what meaning is there in an asteroid hurtling to the edge of the universe? what meaning is there to 9 planets instead of 8? what meaning is there to this stain on my carpet?

gods are only real coz we make them so. gods plan is our plan. gods morality is our morality.

Still failing hard to square that circle. At least you waffle well.

Maybe Techne should define his version of meaning so people would have a clue what he's ranting about.

How about simply answering the question
Ever heard of go to the thread with the appropriate title ?
This one is about the attempt at art and a spokesman for a 19 year old trying to defend it .
The other one is for historical accuracy.

You make as much sense and effort as your god. Coincidence huh?
Soooo cuuuute:eek:.... and meaningless. But I'm sure those meaningless particles in your brain will trick you into thinking your thoughts are meaningful.
