It is not a grin, it is real concern. Religion can be a positive tool and also allows people to transcend their flawed behaviours, but it can also be negative and harmful - especially if people use it as a tool for censorship or use it as a crutch for not thinking.

I certainly have flawed beliefs and things I have not thought through, but it is better to have these talks, examine my OWN shortcomings and not hide behind insults
