I think it’s illegal for good reason, probably because due to incest happening within family systems children can get groomed by older family members into engaging in incest, even if the incest only happened at the age of consent the abusive manipulation may have started many years prior. That and the problems of inbreeding and it being really grim.

Interesting fact I discovered today is Elon Musks father Errol who is 75 has fathered 2 children with his step daughter
It’s apparently the reason Elon has nothing to do with him.

You can groom an unrelated child just the same.

Laws protecting children from such situations seem to be the answer there.

A step daughter isn't even incest though, so these incest laws don't cover that scenario. The situation you're describing, of coercion and manipulation of a minor, is something entirely different.

I'm talking about 2 consenting adults, fully within their right minds. Nobody has been manipulated, nobody has been coerced. What right do I, or anyone else, have to say they can't do whatever the heck they want?

I don't like it when the state tells me what to do with my life when it's something that realistically doesn't impact anyone else. I don't see why this situation of incest is any different.

Sure I find it weird... but it's none of my business.

You are starting to sound like those pedo advocates that want to normalise the abhorrent stuff they do. If you can’t see how a family member will have a far greater influence over an immediate relation in terms of grooming then you need to get your head checked.

Some people are really messed up and being able to freely commit incest with nothing to reign them in would potentially create a public health crisis. There was an inbred family on the fringes of the suburb I grew up in and the children were scary, really messed up, in-bred people have this peculiar look to them, we’d run past that house, creepy af.

Yea. I'm amazed people think that one round of incest creates an instant mutant fish baby.

Folks been watching too much sci-fi.

You have just been banging your sister to much?

As I mentioned there was an in bred family in the suburb I grew up in and the children definitely looked mutant, you could instantly see something was seriously out of kilter with them and they had pretty severe developmental disabilities. I think it’s sound thinking to make incest illegal, kids have enough on their plates as it is, why burden them with the chance they may be born with weird genetic anomalies or get inculcated into thinking giving dad a blow job is perfectly normal.

I honestly don't understand why incest laws exist.

As long as they're all consenting adults, and understand the risk of congenital defects, why is it any of mine or the state's business?

Besides, it usually takes several generations of inbreeding to result in serious defects.
It's bad enough that 57.5% of voters are mouth breathing retards. We don't need to make it easier to increase that...

Who said anything about bearing children? What if one of them got sterilized so that no children can be born from the relationship.

That is what Porchrat was getting at. What does that have to do with anyone. Sure, it is yukky to think about it, but no real harm could come to anyone.

All I'm saying is that what happens between 2 consenting adults is none of my business as long as it doesn't impact my life.

This is nothing like paedophilia. We're talking about adults. Adults are supposed to have autonomy and personal responsibility. Children don't.

It's the same logic I use to say nobody should have any right to ban something like homosexuality. What 2 consenting adults choose to do is their own business. Period.

How would you like it is I started dictating you what was and wasn't allowed in your personal sex life?

I get that there are potential health risks. If there's a public health system my tax money is supporting that would need to treat the kids then the state potentially gets a say in it but if there isn't? Not my business.

Eww, another incest advocate has joined the fray.

No that wasn’t what Porchrat was getting at, he even went as far as to claim that children borne as a result of incest is a non issue, that the birth defects that is common in these children is overblown and nothing to worry about :vomit:

I mean for serious defects to creep in to the point where quality of life is impacted.

A single instance of brother and sister having a kid is unlikely to cause issues.

2 consenting non related adults can do what they please but the minute the family dynamic comes into play and the grooming that can take place from a young age it becomes a very slippery slope. Banning it outright just shuts the door all together and I think is a wise precaution to take. Granted incest fans lose out but I would wager that it’s also for the benefit of society as a whole.

The grooming of a child is an entirely separate matter. That should be, and probably is, illegal in most countries regardless of whether the person is a blood relation. I'm not talking about some sicko grooming a child, I'm talking about 2 consenting adults only. Can you please stop trying to bring that into what I'm saying here.

Let's say for example that 2 brothers were estranged and met up later in life. Hit it off and decided to pursue a relationship. How exactly does that cause trouble for anybody else in society? Why should that be anybody else's business?

I honestly don't get the condemnation. What the heck does it have to do with anyone else?

It's a similar principle to homosexuality. It's not my cup of tea, but whatever 2 consenting adults choose to do is up to them.

Yea because I'm aware genetics is a little more complicated than "brother bangs sister once and now the kids have gills" I'm automatically involved in incest.

Some flawless logic there bucko. Not childish at all.

So you are allowed to make jokes but I’m not?
Ok big guy

Children as a result of incest can have serious disabilities without there being any prior incest within that family. That’s why it is so dangerous it’s rolling the dice with really terrible odds and the poor children have to pay the price.

Case in Germany:

“At the age of 23 he learned about his biological parents, contacted his mother, and met her and his then 16-year-old sister Susan for the first time. The now-adult Patrick moved in with his birth family shortly thereafter. After their mother died suddenly six months later, the siblings became intimately close, and had their first child together in 2001. By 2004, they had four children together: Eric, Sarah, Nancy, and Sofia. According to court records, the first three children have mental and physical disabilities, and have been placed in foster care.”

Show me where I said it's a non-issue, that no birth defects could result.

You're putting words in my mouth mate.

Either that or you've misunderstood what I'm saying entirely.

It's possible yes, and certainly more so than when non-blood relatives have kids. I never said otherwise (again, I don't think you're really reading what I'm writing here).

It's however pretty rare. Usually you've both got to carry the exact same dysfunctional recessive genes for something like this to happen. Usually to get into that scenario requires consistent inbreeding in a population.
