Anyone here used Uber, Bolt etc regularly over the years in the Cape Town area for getting to shoots and back? I'm asking in terms of gear theft & safety when using these ride-hailing services. It's pretty obvious when transporting a tripod and bag that you're carrying some valuable gear.

My only advice to you is to make sure that you don’t forget about it.
Airtag in the cap - handy little things.

Then make it less obvious... and insured.

Surely as this is your job and as such a daily operation to different locations it can’t be economical to use these services over simply having your own transport?

My sister being a photographer and being in all sorts of different places all the time I simply can’t see how this would be economic, short of international shoots where you don’t have much option and then it’s baked into your quotes anyway.

And yes absolutely need to have your kit insured regardless of how you transport it otherwise kiss your livelihood goodbye.

Not sure it's necessarily his "job" nor a "daily operation". If it was he'd already know if it was safe or not.

Not even sure we can even assume he's a resident of CPT in which case an Uber would make a lot of sense. I'm grabbing one on Wednesday when I arrive at ORT to go to Wanderers.

Didn’t assume location at all, just meant if you are shooting locally.

But yeah I guess they are starting out still.

I just know some of the trips my sister in law makes for shoots would probably make them unprofitable using an Uber.

Business Insurance is a thing. So far I found that making business insurance claims a lot quicker and pain free vs regular household insurance

If I lived within the city limits I could see myself ubering to assignments - especially on match days when parking can be a complete nightmare.

Yeah your kind of shoots are definitely beneficial for being more predictable.

All depends on which industry I guess.

Its not business insurance you looking for but an item on your insurance called all cover once it falls under here process is always super quick and easy

It's normally called "All Risks" cover.

I wanted to take an UBER To the Cricket at Wanderers but the Wanderers staff themselves cant tell me how close the Ubers are allowed, all she said is the roads around will be closed

Not very helpful, any ideas where to park nearby OR if an Uber gets to within 200 meters of the Stadium?

Thanks :)
