Hi everyone,

Vumatel has updated their website with the coverage areas for Durbanville and Bellville.

Please go to https://vumatel.co.za/coverage and search for Ridgeworth / Stellenridge / Stellenberg. Narrow it down by zooming into the map by means of the + sign on the top right corner. Click on your house, confirm that the address is correct and select “show interest”. Even if you have shown interest before, please do so again.

There is also a target attached to the interest, so please spread the word.

Let’s get it going!

Man, you guys are up to 19% where the Kenridge side is at 0%... same with Welgemoed side. Who are these useless neighbours?

Yeah the Stellenberg neighborhood watch is very pro-active about this. So trying to get this through to Stellenridge and Ridgeworth as well. Really amped to get this going.

Yes well done Stellenberg! Also registered my interest today! Do we need 100% target or will they start installing in the area with the most interest if they are ready to do so? Surely when they start installing fibre in the area then more people will notice?

Already sitting at 40% :D

Remember, that is 40% of the required target amount. So you still need 60% to sign up. But good work.

It can get quite confusing to some people. But essentially, what VUMA does is say, based on Census information, there are 1000 homes in the area, of that you need 300 homes to sign up. You have signed up 120 homes so far, and that is 40% of the 300 needed.

Makes sense, but I think its a bit more than 300 for our specific case. At 42% target we still need 297 more interest sign-ups.
I am not sure how many homes there are in this area, but that looks like they wanted 512 interest sign-ups for this specific 3 suburbs combined. Considering it only started 3 days ago, right before a weekend, it does look good so far. Need to put in some real effort now to make the rest of the residents aware of this, so we can really get it to the minimum of 512 homes.

Sorry, my numbers that I put in my message was just an example. But if you take 512, and extrapolate, then you have roughly 1700 homes in the area (give or take a few)

But yeah, you guys are well on track.

I got this email 5 days ago:

Hi,

Thank you for your support. Your area has qualified for the rollout of Vumatel Fibre-to-the-home.

Congratulations! We have had a great response from your community and have received the required show of support from over 30% of the residents living in the suburbs of Stellenberg, Stellenridge, East Rock & Ridgeworth.

Remember, those who have not shown their support can still do so in order to receive regular progress updates.

You'll be glad to know that last week we started rolling out our network to the first areas of Durbanville in Kenridge, De Bron & Durbanville Hills .

What next?
Our teams have finished surveying the area and detailed planning is underway. Once planning is complete we will submit our wayleave applications to the City of Cape to get approval to start trenching. These approvals will grant Vumatel permission to trench and lay down fibre infrastructure in the sidewalks past all homes. They will also ensure that we re-instate the trenched areas to their original condition.

At this stage, we cannot confirm any kick off dates but plan to get started in approximately 12 weeks time. We will keep you updated with more details in due course.

Want to know more?
For now, you're welcome to checkout more information on our website or view the packages from our service providers at www.vumatel.net. Remember, Vumatel is OPEN ACCESS. This means we install the fibre lines, and make them available to a range of services providers who provide you with voice and data packages.

We will also arrange a townhall meeting in a few weeks to explain more about the rollout process and what can be expected in front of your home. We will communicate these dates to you.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us on durbanville@vumatel.co.za.

Regards

The VUMA Team

Good day Stellenberg, Stellenryk & Ridgeworth Residents,

The wait is over! We are excited to announce that we have received the wayleaves from The City of Cape Town on Friday and held our site kick-off meeting today. We will commence construction in phase 1/area 1 on Tuesday 18th April.

We would like to remind you that once trenching is complete in front of your home, it will take 3-4 weeks to complete the final re-instatement. Thank you in advance for your patience during this time.

Rollout Schedule

For your convenience have a look at the Stellenberg, Stellenryk & Ridgeworth rollout schedule below to get a better understanding of which phase of the build you fall into. The rollout schedule indicates that:

Construction will happen in four phases.
Each phase will "go live" once civil and fibre work is completed in that phase.
The Map will show you a "construction start date" for when trenching activity can be expected in your phase.
It will also show you a "forecast fibre ready date" for when you can expect us to start installing into homes in your phases.

Please keep in mind that this is a large-scale civils project and the forecast dates can change. We will keep you updated if they do.
Please note that the construction process on your block will take place over 3-4 weeks. Have a look at the fibre journey that you will go through during this exciting fibre to the home project. How will the rollout affect you?

We have permission from the City of Cape Town Council to trench and install our fibre optic cables in the sidewalk/pavement (Council property).
The rollout of fibre to the area will involve trenching in the pavement on both sides of the road. We will need to cross your driveway but will ensure you have access when required.
We will re-instate the sidewalks and restore any tar, paving or vegetation to its original condition.
We will place a small discreet fibre box on your boundary wall.
Even if you are not interested in getting a fibre service into your home, the box will be available to you or the next homeowner for future use. Fibre connectivity will have a positive impact on your property value.
If you do not have a boundary wall, we will leave the fibre in a small "access box" in the ground (similar to a ground buried water meter box).
The trenching and civil activity in front of your home can take up to 3 weeks, from opening the first trench to final re-instatment. Please bear with us and give our teams this time to complete the work.
Up to this point, there is NO COST to any resident to install the fibre in the sidewalk. Residents who are interested in getting a service into their home, can pay for an installation from the boundary fibre box into their home.

Thank you in advance for your patience. We understand that this may be painful in the short term, and we will do our best to ensure it is as painless as possible. We can assure you that the benefits of 1 Gigabit Fibre connectivity will be worth it in the end :)

Not in this specific rollout. But I would say, try and get your neighborhood watch interested, and have a fibre champion get in contact with Vumatel. Since they are so close, I don't see why the Bellville will be overlooked.
