Doesn't this give a warm and fuzzy feeling of safety ...
Joburg metro cops arrest 67 drunk drivers

Come on ... They had issued notices to two taxi drivers and two motorists to stop using their vehicles as they had defective brakes and were leaking oil.

I have absolutely no problem with the MPD arresting drunk drivers ... but are they really the cause of the carnage??? I don't think so ...

they all contribute, drunk drivers contribute their fair share..

I live in a block of flats that overlooks a busy intersection, you can put your money on it that atleast once a month a drunk moron will drive into one of the robots at 3am when theres no one else on the road

Well earlier this week a drunk taxi driver killed half his passengers [it was front page news in jhb]. So i would have to say at this time of year, drunk driving probably play a very big role.

Ian, people cant drive whilst drunk, its a fact, why are you defending the act when so many lives have been taken by drunk drivers?

Really ... so the blowouts on buses, overloaded taxis, etc have nothing to do it then???

The four biggest cause of death on the roads are: Unroadworthy cars, ****ty driving, drunk driving and speeding.

Usually, more than one of these are present in an accident. Drunk driving is the worst sin on SA roads. It is simple: don't drink and drive.

Drunk driving is a problem and they should be going after the drunkards, hopefully they'll go after the taxis etc. too though.

Agreed ... people shouldn't drink and drive ...

Drunk driving ain't the worst sin on SA roads ... it's only one of the many sins, how did drunk driving contribute to this

Please don't take me the wrong way, drunk driving is an evil ... but it isn't THE evil.

The evil is a Transport Dept, that year on year,

(1) lets this happen
(2) condones unroadworthy vehicles on our roads
(3) condones unlicenced drivers on our roads.
(4) does nothing about it.

... for the moment I rest my case.

As far as they're concerned we've already heard the truth. Unless McBride suddenly falls out of favour with the powers that be and it becomes useful to go after him it won't go any further I don't think.

I think I've become so jaded with what goes on in this place that nothing surprises me anymore!

If things like McBride getting away with drunk driving (if he was really drunk) surprise people in this country nowadays, well then I do in a way feel sorry for them because I have a feeling things will get MUCH more ridiculous before they'll start getting better again.

My question is why aren't these vehicles impounded as the case is with drunken drivers? Why do they only get off on a notice, wtf??

Cool what are you going to impound vehicles for:

65kph in a 60kph zone - Fine: One hub cap
70kph in a 60kph zone - Fine: One hub cap + 2 wheel nuts ...

Get real ...

If you're DUI you go to jail, that's it ... none of this we'll get you later S.H.I.T.E.
