Hi

Not sure if that has been covered before but a colleague of mine has recently been abroad to France and Spain. He says that his battery life was less than half that in South Africa, even though he used his phone less. His phone was also getting excessively hot. He uses an iPhone 4. He was roaming in these countries and didn't use his wi-fi.

Now that he is back, battery life is back to normal.

Any ideas as to why this may be. Looking forward to your responses (even humorous ones).

Not sure if the data APN changes when you roam onto other networks. I know my iPhone 3G (back in the past) battery life/charge dropped big time when the APN didn't match / wasn't correct on the network you were on. Not sure if it could be that, just a guess.

probably cos the Iphone doesnt really comply with certain network standards. There should be no reason for this to happen, only change that should happen is software changes.

It could be because of more handovers in more populated countries or something like that but I cant think of anything else. My galaxy never has that problem when I roam.

LOL here were my inital thoughts.

Northern hemisphere. Hence hotter general weather conditions.
He was "holding it wrong"... Sorry had to throw that one in there :p

Honestly though it doesn't make sense to me and imo he either

a) could just be imagining it, or
b) he enabled something like push, increased brightness, or
c) he installed a Cydia tweak during that period and disabled/uninstalled it since he got back..
