Aparently the poison prevents the dogs from breathing by paralizing them. The vets know antidotes and can save the dogs if they are spotted soon enough.

too a lot of people their pets are their children, its like murdering your children.

i can't even fathom how anyone can deliberately do this to animals. how ****ed up are they in their heads that they act in such ways

Disgusting. Thinking nothing of ending lives.

Sigh. I have friends whose dogs are trained not to take food from anyone but them for precisely this reason. Wonder how hard that is to do, and how effective the training is?

I trained my German Shepard and my Spaniel/Lab not to eat anything given to them by somebody other than me. Took me 2 months but made leaving them in the care of other people impossible. There are other ways of training them by giving them specific commands to eat.

People unfortunately dont take the time to train their dogs properly nowadays, especially with regards food, so it is easy to slip something to a god in a bit of meat or mince.
Start from puppy stage to teach them to only eat out of their bowls , put a piece of meat or mince , raw down on the grass or in the garden , and each time the pup goes near it , punish it, it will soon learn not to touch raw meat, or any food lying on counters that is not in his bowl.
Secondly cook your pets food , cook your pets mince, dont let the dogs grow up on raw meat.
Thirdly whenever possible , lock your dogs inside the house, a burglar is less likely to try and enter a house, that has dog slobbering to tear him apart on the inside, outside dogs are too easily distracted, and at night , keep the dogs inside, a dog is a better watchdog inside than outside.
Works for me.

I agree with Nanfeishen...also another trick is that often dogs eat out of people's hands. you can also train them not to eat from people's hands at all, or only from certain people's hands. Bit harder to train a cat.which I dont htink is possible....cats just too full o' cr@p...I know I have one of THOSE types of cats.....

I quite like: "when the three suspected burglars were caught red-handed with the polony"...Polony is a strange enough word hehheehe.....they were caught with polony....hehehehehehe
