Gang hunted over soccer star raid

Police are hunting an armed gang after a knife-point robbery at the home of another Premiership footballer away on duty with his club.
Terrified Hayley Grice, the fiancee of Manchester United's Darren Fletcher, was grabbed by the hair and forced to hand over her engagement ring after hooded robbers held a knife to her throat.

Her mother was also manhandled and forced to hand over jewellery at knife-point after three men kicked in the front door and burst into the living room of the player's £1.5 million mansion in Bowdon, Greater Manchester.

The young couple's twin sons, Jack and Tyler, were asleep at the time.

Police described the raid as a "cowardly attack" done in the knowledge the man of the house was away.

Fletcher, 25, is thought to be the 14th Premiership player to have been targeted in Manchester and Merseyside in the past three years.

Expensive jewellery, Rolex watches, sports cars, soccer memorabilia and medals worth hundreds of thousand of pounds have all been taken during the break-ins.

Detectives are keeping an open mind as to whether the raid was linked to any others, but there were both "similarities and differences" to previous attacks in the area on fellow Premiership stars, Emile Heskey, Roque Santa Cruz and Peter Crouch.

The three armed raiders struck shortly before 9pm on Monday, just hours after the £50,000-a-week Scotland international joined the Manchester United squad on a flight to Italy for a crucial Champions League match against Inter Milan.

The robbers who targeted his house fled in a car but the victims did not see it being driven off.

Saw this earlier. Disgusting and cowardice. Sounds a lot like South Africa over there.

Ya as well jk8, must have taken alot for him to go back out on the field, although if this where SA nobody would be alive.

Must be nice knowing that when your house gets broken into at knife point there is a low chance of anyone dying. Losing material stuff is no biggie i rate.
