What I find strange is that Eskom nailed us with blackouts yesterday to supposedly build up reserves, yet here we are warned on the very next morning of blackouts again tonight?

So what was yesterday really about then?

Even with ocgt and pumped storage running they can't handle the evening peak.

I should miss loadshedding this evening which is good because I want to watch the end of The Open when I get home.

Last night had the 18:00 - 20:30 slot. Power came back on at about 20:05 for about 5 minutes, then went off again until 21:05. Not sure what happened but I wasn't amused.

My guess would be they are having trouble restarting a generator or two after yesterday's refueling.

It was probably a substation failure or something of the sort. It's been happening all over lately because the system was not designed for this kind of abuse. Lately it seems I can't speak to anyone without hearing that the infrastructure in their area failed and left them without power for much longer than the loadshedding period.

About two months ago I was busy working when I heard what sounded like a car suddenly revving very hard, followed by a loud bang and all my electricity going off. Call the municipality - high voltage failure in my area.

This is going to keep happening and they'll have to spend a fortune on repairs. Guess who's going to have to shoulder that cost?

Had a similar problem last night. Was in the 17:30-20:30 slot. At 20:45 the power hadn't come back on (even though surrounding areas had) so I called them. Apparently the switch kept tripping. It eventually came back on at 21:00.

This morning at 05:00 there was a loud humming noise and then the power went out on my street again. Logged a call but it only came back on at 10:00.

Scheduled for 20:00-23:00 tonight. Starting to worry that it may never come back on...

And this folks is why you plan for availability and growing demands.

So sick and tired of this already but the sad thing is that it's going to be a reality for the next few years.

If logic were applied they would make a plan with Soweto, but logic has no place in a government parastatal...
