I realise that we the tax payers and electricity consumers have been forking out huge amounts of money over the last 20 years to pay Eskom's managment and employees bonuses in exchange for them doing close to no work, but I didn't realise that there is only one operational power plant left.

I know what you mean but a network is a collection of interconnected things (plural), whereas "the power plant" is decidedly singular.
Perhaps Eskom's team of ignoramuses meant "the electricity transmission network" or more commonly referred to as "the grid" instead of "the power plant".

Have you queried it with them?I'm an Eskom client and they keep switching off the area regardless of schedules - yesterday from 20:00 - 22:00 and now from 16:30
