So twice now it's happened where the power comes back on around 20:05 (my schedule is from 18:00 - 20:30) but then goes off 5 minutes later, only to come back on another 10 minutes later. What is the reasoning behind this? Has someone switched the power back on too early and then switched it off again? I mean, is another 10 minutes of loadshedding really going to make such a difference?

The worst part about all this is that I unplug my pc and tv while it's off but then reconnect it all when the power comes back on. Was busy on my pc last night when it went off again. No issues fortunately (this time at least).

I checked the schedule yesterday afternoon. No load shedding scheduled. Got home and the power was off. Checked the schedule again and there it is. My area being loadshed. There was no mention of load shed during the day and after the power goes of the schedule gets loaded.

Power in the Northcliff area is off. Went down at exactly 8am.

I downloaded the gridwatch app for my phone and it always warned me of load shedding, So I knew what to expect. But yesterday. No mention of loadshedding. I'll be sure to check the thread too.

I live in a suburb with a hospital and yet still get loadshed while the neighbouring two suburbs with no hospital don't get shed. Weird.

Provided its the same as yesterdaay I should miss it, if it goes to stage 2 earlier then I will get loadshedding for an hour. Scheduled for loadshedding 16-18 on stage 2, nothing on stage 1.

Yea, UPS should be a standard purchase with any pc nowdays.
No longer an optional extra.

Have you ever considered that your sub station is tripping ? You may get lucky because if it becomes a regular problem, they might not load shed your area.

Classic.

Gotta love the "No loadshed during winter" promise from Eskom.

Ah well... generators be prepped and standing by as usual.

Odd, Gridwatch sent out the Stage 1 alert around 16:15 and the Stage 2 at 18:02 (bit late for some people), what amused me was the Stage 0 alert minutes after the "load shedding has ended" message though.

I think that was a error on their side. They normally send an alert "load shedding has been suspended," which is what I presume that they have meant.

Most probably the switching sequence of your supplier is outdated. If too much load is switched on at the same time, you get an overload due to the inrush of current (cold pickup). As protection, the station's breakers will trip again. When the inrush has stabilised after the ~10 - 15 minutes, the breakers are auto / remotely re-closed and will stay on.

When the recent load shedding started again, we had the same situation one night, but instead of the power coming back 10 minutes later, it took 4 hours - protection must've failed to trip and something blew.

Raise a complaint and threaten, had a similar thing a while ago, when loadshedding switched stages, we would suffer a severe brownout for about 10 seconds and the time being nowhere near our timeslot. Was an issue with their substation somewhere during a switch.
