Won't be surprised if we see stage 3 soon this winter...

I think it's not a matter of if it will happen, but when it will happen. SA is just sinking deeper and deeper into economical crisis with the Government not willing to put their social responsibilities first and invest most money into real partnerships with private sector (by not enriching their own families and political connections) and service delivery to the poor. Unfortunately, in South Africa, the poor seems to increase exponentially in a certain racial category unabated. Am I trying to be racist? No, I'm just stating the obvious from my POV.

coupled by the fact that they refuse to release the stats really worries me.

Yeah, even Chris Yelland has now been completely cut out of the loop. The only person who was previously able to give detailed technical information up 'till now

Yes, it certainly seems possible. We're in the depths of a cold winter and already hitting 2 - hit 3 once or twice. Koeberg #2 is one stage (930MW) all by itself, so if we have the usual cold spells into Sept-Nov, we may well see stage 3 after that is taken out. Then we just need a single mishap (diesel, accident or something) to take us down. Medupi was supposed to be ramping up, but we haven't heard any encouraging news from that corner to compensate.

I must say I really dont believe that the load on a sunday morning is enough to require loadshedding this coupled by the fact that they refuse to release the stats really worries me.

Just picture thousands upon thousands of shacks and informal houses lighting up all their heaters, hot plates, etc. With no loadshedding to stop them,

I was waiting for the power to go off here at 8am (stage 2 announced early by Eskom), so I shut my PC(s) in anticipation. Nothing happened in my area, and I soon found out that the City of Cape Town started using spare capacity at exactly that time (which was not announced in advance).

After rebooting I got locked out of the forum ('password hell'), which was rather frustrating. So, even if your power doesn't go off, the uncertainty and possibility that you might be load shed, and the knock-on effects can be quite disruptive...

Edit: I meant to add that the City of Cape Town status says "CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING LOADSHEDDING STAGE 1", not anything about using spare capacity (nor in their Twitter feed). See: http://www.capetown.gov.za/en/electricity/Pages/LoadShedding.aspx

You CT guys are lucky. My zone here in Durban we either have the 18-20 or 20-22 slot. And that's for every day of the week bar one. By far the most inconvenient times.

D North is only listed once the whole week for Stage 1+2. 10-12 on a Sunday.
SOmeone pulled some serious strings there.

My area is like 18 times for the same period and stages throughout the week.

Durbans schedule is just fscking piss poor.. I also get either 6-8 or 8-10 at least 5 days a week if it gets to stage 2.... and get hit 3 times a week on stage 1.. always in the evening, and other suburbs practically never get load shedding.. think my folks have had load shedding twice in the last 3 months.

Was meant to be out between 10am and 1pm today.

Power didn't go out at all - score!
