Rosebank Fibre - The Vantage - FTTH

Hi all,

I am hoping someone can possibly enlighten me regarding FTTH..

I recently moved into The Vantage in Rosebank, opposite the 54 on bath Hotel. Telkom has connected every apartment with fibre for free (apparently), therefore each unit (165 units) have a port to connect a fibre modem. I was a bit concerned as I do not want to be locked down with the only option of using Telkom, so I enquired and was advised that they laid the optics however they do not have exclusivity and that I am free to choose any provider.

I am new to this whole FTTH notion, so after endless google searches and not much clarity I decided to turn to this forum, hoping that someone can answer the following questions:

1. Who are suppliers of FTTH in Rosebank?
2. I really like the cipher wave uncapped 20/20 pricing, but they say that Vumatel does not offer in Rosebank, who does?
3. Do you still have line rental like ADSL had if the building is already connected?
4. I know how ADSL works, i.e. Line + ISP = Internet, how does FTTH work?
5. Is there no site that I can search all operators / isp's... Like a hippo.co.za for fibre based on my address / location?
6. If you familiar with Rosebank, who in your opinion is the best option in terms of FTTH, with decent priced uncap with decent speeds?

Sorry if these questions are dumb 🙈, really need to get connected but don't want to have just one company that is insanely priced as an option... I need to know what / who I should be looking at...

So you are limited to the fibre operator that has deployed to your complex IE telkom. Drop me a mail on paul at cisp.co.za and we can see what we can do. We do many connections in Rosebank aside from the normal operators.

My wifes office is in Rosebank and she has battled to get connected. As for private ftth I couldn't find any so we chose a different area to live. Check with Cool Ideas though, they may have something that I didn't see. They are also great - using them in Craighall Park

F1ve_Claw drop me a mail as well, we service many businesses in Rosebank via DFA already. We cover the whole precinct.

You would need to go through an ISP that offers openserve packages, we looked at deploying at The Vantage ourselves but the body corporate is fixed on OS.

Thanks for the help, I see cool ideas has openserve packages? Does this mean I'll still have to pay OS for a line rental?

You either combine or get data only packages and a line from another provider.

Thanks. Do I not just need a data package since the Vantage has an ONT box for each floor and the fibre is live? I'm not sure if I need to pay for the line rental? or is it provided by the Vantage?

Lines are provided by openserve, so you still need to pay for the line rental even though the infrastructure is in place.

Do you know if anyone has connected at the Vantage, as I have spoken to multiple people at Cool Ideas, and they say the Fibre is not live?
However I know that it is live and there is an ONT box on every floor. People have ISP contracts with Telkom at the Vantage. So why would Cool ideas say it is not live ?

So is The Vantage purple? All openserve requests get sent to a Particular manager, so did you specifically mention openserve coverage?

Yes, The Vantage is purple (It is the corner of Bath and Tyrwhitt Ave). I also mentioned that it is openserve. Could you please provide contact details for the Particular manager. I have been getting varying answers from different consultants via the call centre and my application form keeps getting rejected (as the email states their is no coverage at the Vantage).
