Router Config

Hi Guys,
I'm Stuck, i got a D-Link ADSL Router DSL-500G, have everything set-up, net up and running but cant get to some sites, Cant D/L from tucows, etc, do any of you know, if i need to change any of the NAT or RIP settings. Etc, any help would be very much appreciated.[?]

Check your DNS servers, the original one given to me by my service provider gave me endless crap, the new ones I've got are

Primary : 196.43.1.13
Secondary : 196.43.3.206

Try these out and tell me what happens

Huh? I got a fax from Telkom just yesterday for a new installation and it was 196.25.1.1 and 196.25.1.9?

Yep those were the same ones I was given and they gave me endless crap - since I changed to the ones I posted earlier, no problems.... if they're working for then gr8 otherwise try the others

When u say you can't download from tucows, are you trying to download from an ftp site? if u are having troubles with ftp, check that you're not blocking ftp access through your fire-wall, also, tucows links to overseas sites for some downloads (even though its a local mirror - go figure) so if u'v been capped (which I hope not so early in the month, that may also be your problem

Myself and "DarkHelmet" spend most of the morning on this one, it's good to have poeple like this around, "That know's their stuff", he has checked all my setting etc, must say very nice speed improvement, but still a bump here and there, I just wanna thank all of you that replied, but specialy do "DarkHelmet", as soon as we have resolved this i'll post an reply.

Can you ping tucows by fqdn, if so then it is not DNS (I doubt very very much that this problem is associated with DNS)

When you say you cant download from tucows what is the error that you receive ie gateway timeout, dns error ....

I have recently applied a DSL-500G ADSL Router from D-Link, I am having some problems of setting it up with my fixed ISP line (fixed means an IP was provided by the ISP provider and therefore, user name and password are not required to login). Can anyone tell me the exact procedures of setting the router up with my fixed broadband connection??

Those DNS servers you were talking about (Primary : 196.43.1.13
Secondary : 196.43.3.206) are completely different from the one telkom supplied me with ( mine are 196.25.1.11 and 196.43.1.11). Can i change those to the ones Quazzi was talking about? What difference will it make?
