So my fibre line and Mikrotik router was recently installed. The service provider manages the router and so I lose all the control I used to have (as in the various router functions, DNS management, etc etc)

Example: I needed to change DNS servers on the router.

What's been your experience is dealing with this?

Should be the same as with a normal ADSL router, I think. Dont quote me though.

I would call your ISP and ask them to give you access to the router for a few mins. If they say no, then tell them to make the changes you want.
If they're still being so fussy, I would move with my wallet to another ISP who aren't an@l like this.

Log a call with your ISP, in the mean time just add the new DNS settings to your devices manually...

Which ISP? VOX manage customer Mikrotik routers but you can request the login details from them. They just make you sign a document that says you know what you are doing. Mikrotik routers are not intended to be configured by your average joe, their configuration is quite complicated and easy to mess up which could leave your home network exposed.

Some fibre providers offers a login with limited access, but requires paperwork to be signed saying if you break your connection entirely they will charge to fix

Okay sounds good. I've only got a couple of devices so maybe just easiest to change DNS manually on each device. Thanks guys
